I have purchased 2 pups & almost a 3rd from Family Puppy Novi. My first experience with F.P. was 3yrs ago when I found my Noelle, a Cavalier. It was terrific. The manager really knew her stuff & answered all my questions. The owner even called & spoke to me. My only issue was, Noelle came home with giardia & 3 vet visits later, we finally got rid of the messy parasite. So obviously she & many other pups were suffering with it. My 2nd purchase was with a friend of mine, December 2018. The staff was much less professional & knowledgeable. We love the mixed breed Shitzu Poodle but our vet did say he might have Dachshund somewhere in his history. We don't mind but how can we know for sure without DNA testing. AND The inventory had DOUBLED & there were older dogs still waiting for a home while growing up in crates at a strip mall. The 3rd visit was with another friend. She found a Cavalier like Noelle but the price was 1k more. So I started doing research & asking questions. The answers I did & didn't get are the reason for this review. As I started asking questions, they dropped the price twice. Hmmmm, they finally told me the pup was not registered with AKC & the mom had no health certificate for heart & eye issues Cavaliers often suffer from. So the initial price is shocking. But then I learned the breeder has 10 intact breeding females. So I asked for that breeders veterinarian info to call & confirm the humane treatment of so many females at one facility. They would not give that information to me nor did the owner ever call me back after numerous requests to speak with him. Family Puppy may have started out with the best of intentions but they are now just a middle man for puppy mills with an irresponsible number of puppies waiting to be taken home. If people continue to shop for puppies at places like this, the puppy mill industry will never shut down. And the inhumane treatment of animals will just continue. I will never go looking for my furry family member again at a store. And I strongly urge others to not buy from Family Puppy. Find a reputable breeder where the pups grow up with their litter mates & mama until they go home with you and not stuck in a crate in a strip mall. The prices are the same and you can see for yourself where your puppy is coming from. My hope is that more people make this decision and stores like Family Puppy go out of business & the puppy mill industry ends...
Read moreWe adopted 2 puppies from them in January of 2021. For what we paid, my expectation was that we would have carefully selected dogs with great genes. The puppies are a mix of Rat Terrier and Cavalier Spaniel. One puppy is perfect. The other has some real mental issues that result in extremely aggressive behavior. The dogs have been with with well accredited trainers and our vet. They all believe the issues are a result of genetics. When purchasing the puppies we were told about how selective the Family Puppy is with the breeders and how all dogs were AKC certified. We were offered the opportunity to review the parents papers. I trusted that when we were told the parents were certified, we were being told the truth so I declined. Turns out the mom was not certified or akc registered. We were also told the dogs have only eaten Lifes Abundance dog food since they stopped nursing. We had to purchase the food to keep the dog warranty. The dogs had digestive issues for the first few weeks after bringing them home. Once they adapted to the food they were fine. I am not certain that the dogs were on the food from day 1. My guess is the food the breeders fed them was something different. The reason they force that food is because they get a kick back from Lifes Abundance as long as you feed your dog that food. I think overall they do a decent job, but it seems they are willing to cut corners and creatively tell the truth in order to make an extra buck. My next dogs will be from reputable breeders where I can actually meet the...
Read moreWe are so thrilled with our new Havanese puppy!! The first week we had him, he only had 1 accident in the house (and that was really my son's fault). He is so friendly, so cuddly, was able to fetch and return within a few days, and was very patient with my older (grieving) dog. We had just lost our dog of almost 10 years. My other dog was extremely depressed!! We were advised by the vet to get another puppy sooner rather than later because my dog never spent 1 night away from from my other dog (the one who died) in 9 years. I wasn't sure how she was going to react to the puppy. The puppy would try and play with her, but she wanted nothing to do with him. The puppy new when to leave her alone and was very patient. I honestly didn't think my dog would ever take to the puppy. Well, now they are great friends and my 9 year old dog acts like a puppy herself. I have to believe that a lot of the reason why the puppy is the way he is is because of how well taken care of he was before we got him. This place is a great place, and they really do treat their dogs like their own. This puppy was such a great addition and has helped my family with the grieving process over the loss of...
