I gotta say, I was a bit surprised, perturbed at my experience at The Barronette. While I was looking forward to it being an overall success, I must say that there were many unfortunate shortcomings. Including the endgame by management themselves.||First and foremost I arrived at almost midnight, so it was late and I get that. However, I would like to think that’s enough time for (Housekeeping) to clean the room in an adequate manner. However, I was greeted to hair all in the shower drain and toilet seat (see attached pics ). There were also long strands on the towels that room service had to bring because….well….when we got to the room, there was only one of each towel. Unfortunately, that’s not all….||The next morning we go downstairs to the Oak Tavern. The hostess, who I later found out was named Juliette, was EXTREMELY rude to us when we asked to sit in another spot than the one that she picked for us to sit at. I’m happy to go into detail, but to sum it up:|- The spot she picked was near the entry where there was a bachelorette party happening.|- The table and the long booth were filthy with crumbs (as well as two of the silverware).|- When I brought it up to her, she literally (I kid you not) gave us all a “are you f—-ing kidding me” |- She then says, “I want you guys to sit here.” I reply, “but we just told you we don’t.” |-She again gave me a blank stare, then rolled her eyes and said “ OK I guess I better find out if ‘they’ are willing to serve you in the section next to this one.” |- After we got seated she continue to give me in particular rude, glaring stares and roll her eyes again. ||Now it’s important to note that our waitress Jill did a phenomenal job, but Juliette really did leave a sour taste in her mouths. |NOTE: although one of the waitresses said the hostess’ name was Juliette, she can be described as a burnette with a white shirt with black pants.||Lastly , while sleeping through the night, we weren’t sure what was going on, but it seemed as if the AC kept going in and out. It was so uncomfortable we kept waking up in sweats.||Nothing else happened after this entire event. We went back to our rooms, we checked out and left a Hotel shortly afterwards. I immediately wrote a manager named Nancy. Now this is where I must admit, that got initially got excited. I thought the situation was going to get better. Nancy saw my email and immediately called me. When I explained the situation to her, she was very apologetic and professional. She could not have been nicer. However, this is the reason why I cannot give this place anything better than three stars. I do not know what it is with the hospitality sector these days with not refunding guests their money after a horrendous stay. Instead of her doing the right thing and saying, “… for this entire ordeal, we would like to refund you.” She decided to just give me a measly 5000 points. This is unacceptable. I even mentioned that to her on the phone. She went ahead and kept doing what she was doing. That’s a problem. So all those leads me to believe that the entire place needs a lot of work. From Housekeeping, to the restaurant, to even management. At this time, I cannot recommend the...
Read moreOn October 1st, I arrived at a hotel under a discounted rate, courtesy of my grandmother's employment at Marriott. Little did I know that this visit would turn into an unfortunate ordeal. At the front desk, I was informed that the authorization paperwork had expired. I calmly explained that I could obtain a new form the following morning. To my surprise, the front desk attendant became increasingly hostile and belligerent.
Despite the minor hiccup, her demeanor was far from professional. I respectfully requested that she refrain from speaking to me in such an aggressive manner. It was at this point that things took a drastic turn. She treated me as though I were a criminal, responding with a threat to call the police if I didn't vacate the hotel within five minutes. I couldn't fathom why a simple request for respectful communication would lead to such a severe reaction.
I hesitate to label this incident as racism, as I don't wish to unfairly accuse the entire company. However, I can assert with certainty that I was wrongfully expelled from the hotel and charged the full price with no discount. As an African American professional, I did not feel safe during this encounter. Regrettably, I have decided never to patronize a Marriott establishment again.
The following day, October 2nd, I received a call from the General Manager after leaving several voicemails. To my dismay, he displayed a similar level of hostility and rudeness. Rather than offering a genuine apology, he defended the employee's actions, despite not being present during the incident. His tone was condescending, as he addressed me as "young lady" and demanded answers in a manner that felt belittling.
I politely requested that he address me as Mrs. [Your Last Name], not as "young lady." The entire experience was marked by a sense of entitlement and disregard for customer service. My partner and I had come to Novi for a weekend property viewing, but this distressing encounter compelled us to change our plans and leave the state.
Conclusively, I was the victim treated like a criminal. P.S. the hotel wasn’t really that nice, I have been to better hotels (J.W. Hotel etc)
They charged me $209 I did not want to pay in the morning. I have been to high end hotels and I am very familiar you pay upon check in. This hotel is ran by individuals who lack accountable but instead try to gaslight you into being the aggressor. The issue was the form was expired, which they realized 5 hours later. I stated I could provide them a new form and they proceeded to go absolutely insane calling me derogatory names and charging me full price than asking me to leave because I asked them to not speak to me in such a horrible manner!!! privilege...
Read moreI held a business event at the Baronette in April (a few months ago), and every time I see the hotel's name, I get angry. So, I decided to finally write a review.
My first planning visit was excellent. The events person with whom I met was creative, interested in helping to make my event memorable and special, and she went out of her way to be sure that she understood my needs. Unfortunately, she left for maternity leave the following week, and I was left in the hands of her uncaring, incapable colleagues. From the second meeting on, I was treated as though I was an interruption to the staff's day, was made promises that were later retracted, and had charges placed on my bill that were not disclosed ahead of time. Since I had already sent invitations to the event, I felt stuck with the location, otherwise, I would have changed location before it even began!
On event day, I arrived to find that the layout of tables was different than that on the floor plan (that they drew), and they refused to adjust it, stating that they did not have outlets in the locations required to do the layout that I wanted (and that THEY drew in their floor plan). We also had people walking through the middle of our event all day long, sometimes lingering outside of our meeting rooms, talking loudly on their cell phones, and interrupting our meetings.
The service staff was delightful, but the event planners and management continued to neglect our needs, did not respond to our issues, and pretty much ignored me (although they did, conveniently, speak with my staff).
I met with the hotel manager after the event, he listened to my concerns, feedback, and complaints, and he said that he would meet with his staff to share my experience. I never heard from him again, but he did issue a very small refund for part of the monies that I had paid. It was too little, too late.
I lead programs in hotels and meeting facilities around the world, and I have never had such a negative experience. Frankly, I expect more from a Baronette-like hotel. I expect excellent service, interested an caring event planners (who have creative ideas) for the prices that they charge (and the surcharges on everything, even a tip for the "room" and for the "AV equipment." I'm sorry, but I do not believe that I need to add a 22% gratuity to a room, just for being there. They should just add the 22% to the rental fee for the room, to at least be transparent about the charges.
I could go on and on about this, but I think that readers will get the point.... I DO NOT recommend this...
