I booked my company Christmas party at the HUB Novi. We had dinner and rented 2 lanes for 2 hours of curling. I prepaid the meal, curling and the remaining minimum $1,000 for and bar which was $396.50 dollars which would go toward the open bar tab.
When we arrived, we checked in at the front desk where we were given bracelets and told to go upstairs, I approached the tables we were supposed to have reserved and there were people sitting there. I approached the bar since nobody was there to greet us and was ignored until I asked the young lady behind the bar about our tables, she told me I had too go to the counter with the curling shoe covers. They didn't seem to know but someone at least went to get our account rep. She then came up to greet us and apologized for not being ready for us. I want very happy with the beginning but we finally had our tables so I moved on.
Dinner was actually really tasty and everything seemed to be going great. Once we got playing though we were forgotten, not one time did we get someone out to offer drinks. I has]d to flag down the curling coach who then went to get someone to take our drink order. Once again, since we finally got some service, I let it go.
Now we have the after game, everything seemed to be good, our waiter was helping us and taking drink orders so all was good. I asked him to close out the tab and get me a final bill. He said that he would have to get someone to get the bill so we waited. A young lady came to finalize the bill and she mentioned that we owed another 396.50 which seems correct to me since we had a I knew we had a credit that was already paid, I didn't have that credit paid with me so I wasn't aware that it was the same exact amount. Shen then gave me the bar tab for an additional $750 or so dollars, I asked her if that was still the remaining amount due which she said yes. I told her that no its not. We had prepaid the first amount that was close to $400 and just paid another #396.50 and now you want $700 more, I said I will not pay a dime until your break down the entire bill to me. She gave me the bar tab and the original contract and kept demanding that we owe the additional $700 plus dollars. I told her that quick math would say that we would have a bar tab of almost $1,500 for 16 people and that I want her to line by line break it down. I also told her about how terrible the service was at times throughout the event snd I asked for the manager, she said she was the manager,. She said well you are getting in my face ill just go get security then, I told her to do what she has to do. I waited for her to get security so we could get this straightened out. I saw her come around several times from a distance with different people as if they were trying to figure things out. Finally, she and another gentleman came up to talk, I told the gentleman that first of all the service was very hit and miss in which he said that they were short staffed so my immediate reply was, well then don't book more than you have staff for as it is a receipt for disaster. I then told him that I am not looking to cause issues but I want a break down of the bill. He then said that they had made an error, and that in fact they owed me $45.00. Although the gentleman apologized the extremely rude young lady who threatened to call security never did! I did however thank them both, shook their hands and left.Crazy thing is, I was there 3 weeks ago with another group, we had so much fun that I decided to book our Christmas party there.
As a business owner, I would be horrified to know that my customers were treated so poorly and I assure you that young lady would be looking for a new job today!
Everyone has bad days and if I would have gotten a sincere apology from this young lady, this review would have never happened. You need to send your management to classes on customer interaction because they have no clue and to walk around with an attitude isn't...
Read moreMy groups experience was borderline unexceptionable. As first time visitors, will not be back. Only positive, wait staff were SUPER friendly. We were there as part of an After Party in association with Motor City Comic Con.
We got there and were shown exactly were to go. Within 5 minutes of sitting down we were approached by 2 staff. They explained the free food we were getting as part of the after party and offered a menu. We waited 20+ minutes for a server to come by and take our order, honestly probably only got one because we grabbed her after she finished another table. Ordering went okay, but we were told that they did not have enough menus in the building.
During the wait to have our order taken we wanted to get some water at a refill station like the first 2 people told us. Self service water jug was consistently empty. So we had to go to the bar where she only had like warm water as her cold water was broken. At one of the trips to the bar, other patrons asked if they were supposed to place there food order with her, she proceeded to snap at them “that’s what you have waitresses for”.
While waiting for our food we watched staff come out with food. They would stand at the entrance to the room and just look around. Never announced food orders or anything. Finally someone came up to the table next to us asking if they had ordered. They said no, so they came to my table, turned out to be my food. Maybe? I mean it was what I ordered.
My table mates proceeded to wait 5-10 minutes for their food to show up. One order I watched the guy stand in the middle of the room saying nothing and just looking around. After 2-3 minutes approached a table and asked them. Only reason my friend got it was because I over pears the item and grabbed the staff member as he went to walk out of the room.
Meanwhile our third friend still had no food. It finally came out and it actually came directly to our table. He ordered a simple hamburger, no cheese. Turns out it had cheese and was sent back. After another wait it returned, wrong again. After another wait it finally showed up correct.
Food itself was bland and overpriced. My friends Chicken sandwich was extremely spicy, but bland & flavorless beyond that. My Crispy Chicken Tenders were somehow juicy but lacked any flavor, like the juiciness was water and definitely not crispy. Fries were at least decent.
We quickly closed our tabs as we were very disappointed. As part of this event, we recieved a $10 off voucher. Despite being given this as part of the event, and the fact that we gave it to our waitress at the time of ordering, she informed us that a manager needed to manually remove it from our bill and that she was going to have to take our names one by one to have this done. Thankfully this process was actually sped up as she came back to get the other two names.
The waitress we had and the girl at the door were supper friendly, nice and even apologetic. Beyond that, this was disorganized and the worst handled event I have ever...
Read moreI had high hopes for a fun evening of axe throwing at The Hub, but my experience was marred by a series of frustrating service failures. I made a reservation for axe throwing. I arrived and was seated at a table for five without any issues. However, when my friends arrived, the staff refused to let them join me unless they signed a waiver—even though we were already comfortably seated. This insistence felt like holding them hostage, and it was frankly alarming.
When I approached to clarify the situation, I was told that the staff was not aware of my axe throwing reservation—even though they had seated us without asking. All of us were forced to sign a waiver and even have our hands stamped before we could continue dining. JUST dining. The staff were rude, impatient, and made us feel as though we were in the wrong, wasting a good 20 minutes of our time right off the bat. Also, no apology from them for the misunderstanding.
After finally sitting down to try to salvage the evening, things went from bad to worse. Our table was dirty upon arrival, our beer was lukewarm, and the food was just average. To top it off, while we were laughing and enjoying ourselves, a staff member rudely informed us—20 minutes past our reserved axe throwing time—that our session had been pushed out by an hour and "please try to make it on time this time." This reminder came when the axe throwing area was completely empty, making it even more baffling. Not once did the staff think that we were late because they wasted our time upon entry...
The delays didn’t stop there. Our waitress was nowhere to be found, our check took an eternity to arrive, and then technology issues further delayed our payment process. As a result, we ended up being an hour late for our original axe throwing session time, and were very stressed out about missing our "rescheduled" time due to the attitude of the staff member.
The only redeeming part of the night was Kelly’s excellent instruction and conversation during axe throwing, but it wasn’t nearly enough to overcome the shockingly poor customer service. I’ve been to The Hub several times before with good experiences, but this incident was absolutely awful. I won’t be returning, and I’d caution others to look elsewhere—there’s even a nearby escape room we plan to try next time.
Overall, The Hub let us down with its chaotic management and rude, unprofessional staff. Save yourself the hassle and find a venue that respects...
