Perla's Oriental — Local services in Oak Harbor

Courtesy of the U.S. Navy, I spent considerable time in the Philippines in the 70's and 80's. I acquired a taste for their food and beer (domestic versions), as well as developing a respect and admiration for their people.

My two favorite foods there are lumpia, a deep-fried spring roll, and pancit, a noodle dish. Both are very hard to find here. Perla's is a mandatory stop when we visit Oak Harbor. Freshly-prepared food is available in the back. A small dining area is in the front of the store. A freezer is filled with various types of lumpia. My wife and I enjoyed a great lunch of lumpia and pancit, then purchased a large bag of frozen lumpia, to enjoy at home.

The women who operate the store are from career Navy families. The entire operation is very casual, with many regular customers. The building is the former location of Chris' Bakery, which moved to another location. Expect zero atmosphere, as the interior is very basic. The focus here is on the excellent food.

Horrible. Went in there to try out their little food in the back. Asked for the $12 cup, since I only had $15 cash. Cash only place. No cards accepted, which is there loss. I said it multiple times I wanted the $12 cup . And tax should not be over 3$ . I asked her which ones were available for the $12 option cup. She pointed to all the adobo options and the beef stew for the 12$. When I get to the front it's not $12 it came out to 16.35$ . She said o well you got the beef stew,and it's 15$!! , the item she recommended and pointed out the items that were 12.00 , I understand tax . But lying and changing the whole price during check out . Ever where I go in this town why are all the establishment try to sneakily upcharge. Not worth the...

In the Time of Mom and Pop places, if you're interested in Home cooked authentic foods, If this isn't the Best in Oak Harbor well it's right up there in the TOP. The store isn't much to gaze upon, however that's perfectly fine(I came for the food) when what you're looking for isn't looks it GREAT Food and Wonderful service. With absolutely Delicious Filipino foods made with Love and Hard work. Truly a Hidden gem to be found and the price reflects All the care and delicious flavors wrapped up in it. VERY well done...
