Fun little story! My wife and I visited the Outer Banks for the first time in our lives and it was a Godsend of a beautiful trip. Everyone is so nice and the area is so dreamy. We took a boat to Ocracoke Island and this store was one of our stops. We bought a shot glass for my wife. When we left a few days later, she lost that shot glass while we cleaned our hotel room before our sad departure. We didn't notice until we got home. It was my bright idea to call this beautiful little store to see if they would ship me that same shot glass we lost and the staff were insanely helpful. The lady I talked to (her name started with "M") actually did it for us on her personal time! Insane! I hate that I cannot remember her name to give her all the love and respect in the world for such a kind gesture! If that special lady reads this, THANK YOU! I would highly recommend this cute little store on your travels...

It's been 15 years since I've been. I was just telling my 3year old a story about the island, and I remembered the way I used to get excited as a child when we would pull up to the variety store in my mom and stepdad's minivan. I would fling open the van's rolling door and dash inside--wide eyed at the prospect of vacation candy (Lemonheads,) cap guns, balsa airplanes, grape soda and dirt bike magazines. I still remember fondly the sweet, peculiar smell of dairy and bread mixed with salt air and a well worn structure. There are few vacation towns where the full-time residents treat you like a welcome equal--Ocracoke was the exception--the Variety store was an exceptional place. I hope I have a chance to get back there one day with my daughter, and pray it...

Come and Get it! This is the place to stock up when you first ride into town. Organic Springer Mountain Chicken, Beef, steaks, fresh fruits, vegetables, frozen vegetables, ice cream, water, cereal, all the essentials TRUST ME!!! You will leave satisfied!! You can even buy ice and a six pack or two!!🍻 Don't forget to buy bug spray if you have sweet blood like me. Lol!! This area definitely has mosquitoes but, not enough to keep me and my family away from enjoying the beautiful shops and beach. Don't forget to stop by the store when you leave town for some snacks for the trip home. See you next year Ocracoke Variety Store!!...
