Village Craftsmen — Attraction in Ocracoke

Wonderful shop carrying fine goods, including jewelry and many household items, and artwork. The pricing is quite modest and everything is made by NC local artisans! That being said, this review is mostly about the ghost/history tours run by Village Craftsmen. My partner and I spent a long weekend in Ocracoke and our tour with Amy Howard was hands down our favorite part of the trip! Amy does an incredible job of bringing you inside the true history of Ocracoke in a way that is both historically accurate and highly informative, while still giving your imagination room to run wild, with a healthy dose of goosebumps thrown in for good measure. We have visited the Village Craftsmen numerous times through the years. We never miss a chance to stop by when we are in Ocracoke. And, more often that not, we make a purchase - not unusually a decorative piece to remind of of our wonderful days on the Island. I uploaded a couple of photos. One is a stained glass scene of a sunset and the lighthouses we bought from Phillip just a week ago and hung in the transom of our front door. The two bird sculptures are from two previous visits. The blue heron goes back maybe 15 or 20 years. VC has a wonderful selection of pottery and jewelry, some of which always winds up coming back to Virginia! Beautiful store with a lot of history and beautiful artwork from all over NC and even some other states. Great place to buy a unique gift while you’re vacationing! Will definitely be coming back. My dad got some Yaupon tea leaves to brew which he had been looking for and my mom got a beautiful mug. My boyfriend also ended up getting his brother a book signed by Philip Howard who owns the store and is pretty much a local historian. Awesome place!
