My husband and I went there on our honeymoon. The furniture is updated and very beachy looking (I recommend that you go on the website. That is where you go see the recent photos of the updated furniture.) The view is simply breath taking. We had a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and toaster. We stay in room 301. It was a corner room and to us, it was the best. The ladies are very nice and welcoming. The breakfast was very good. The menu had 3 or four different kinds of cereals, sliced fruit, cheese danishes and other danishes, different flavors of little muffins, two different kinds of bagels, English muffin, regular and decaf coffee, apple juice and orange juice, three different kinds of milk, two different kinds of yogurt, and several types of tea. Also, you have an opportunity to play games there. Or if you wanted, you could put together a puzzle. You can eat inside or outside. If you see a cat, her name is Melissa and she loves people. If you are lucky, you will see little crabs walking around the deck near the boats. Don't forget to take the time to admire the paintings that will be hung up in your room. The jet tub is nice. Oh, and the couch that is there, if you take the cushions off..its a pull out bed. There's no A/C vent for the bathroom which made it nice for me. You can control the temperature in the bedroom and have it colder from the main room if you want. The bed has 4 pillows total. One is a little firmer than the other. Don't forget to grab coffee at 5am from your kitchen and you can watch the sunrise(not literally) off your front porch. This was an amazing stay. The first 3 photos is of the sunrise and the last is sunset. Sorry that I didn't take any photos of the room...i wish I did because it was super. I can't wait...
Read moreFirst off, Ocracoke Island was beautiful, the native folks were wonderful and the food and restaurants were great. Ocracoke Harbor Inn was quite nice on the outside, but once inside, our minds were changed. The room was clean but was extremely outdated. The furniture was horrible and old and for the most part, unusable as there was no support. If you have a bad back, the furniture will kill you. There is no smoking in the room which is great, but you can smoke on the balcony and if your neighbors choose to smoke, you'll enjoy their smoke as well. The cigars were especially great (place sarcasm here). So, if you don't smoke and you want to enjoy the nights and views and sunsets from your balcony and your neighbors are outside smoking, good luck, this hotel is not for you. We had to get off the island due to TS Ophelia early then expected and no refund was offered. The front desk gave conflicting weather and ferry information when asked about weather and ferry information. FYI, speaking directly to the ferry operator, they stop taking reservations when the wind reaches 30mph and cancel Ferrys all together when the wings reach 35mph. Don't believe what the hotels tell you as they want you to stay and spend your money. We departed Thursday, two days early and were lucky enough to get the second to last Ferry to Swans Quarter. Not a lot to do on Ocracoke except if you like the beach which was gorgeous and fishing. Only one gas station and during our stay, only two of four pumps were working. Good food...
Read moreWe stayed at Morning Star, one of the cottages operated by the Ocracoke Harbor Inn. We'd stayed at the Inn several times over the years, and this was our first cottage stay. We spent three nights in early August visiting with our daughter. ||The cottage is lovely, well renovated and decorated, and in a nice quiet location near the lighthouse. The layout has a king suite downstairs, and two bedrooms upstairs, each with a queen and a twin, and a shared hall bath. All the beds were comfortable. There is a living room, dining room, screened in porch with a ceiling fan, an open deck, and a second living/TV area with a couch and two chairs. Internet is very fast (300 down, 200 up.) The cottage was very clean and well set-up. ||We brought a lot of kitchen gear, but ended up using just our knives and our pour-over coffee setup (they have a coffeemaker though.) The kitchen had a nice selection of pots and pans, bowls, cooking utensils, sheet and baking pans, plates, bowls, utensils, etc. Very well equipped if you like to cook. We made seafood dinners each night with the fresh catch from the co-op fish house a short walk away. ||The only thing I would bring next time would be our own towels, soap, and shampoo. The supplied linens are adequate, but the towels especially could be better. ||We were very happy with our stay and would...
