My fiance and I were in Ocracoke to celebrate our engagement. We experienced the absolute most terrifying night of our lives. The people next door to us were fighting, slamming furniture that sounded like it was coming through the wall. They were literally wrestling and growling like animals in the hallway with doors continually slamming. It started around 11:30pm and continued for several hours. We never slept at all that night. We had had a great stay at the Castle on Silver Lake the night before and had enjoyed a wonderful dinner and entertainment at the Jolly Rodger earlier that evening. Also, the shower bar handle completely came off because of improper fitting and I almost fell because of it. The pool was slimy and still locked at 10:30am. The office/lobby is what only can be described as filthy with hoarding type trash and garbage covering every inch. When we informed the owner of our experience they didn't care at all and refused any restitution. We thought that Ocracoke was a safe place to visit. We left the Sand Dollar traumatized and exhausted with our engagement celebration thoughroughly ruined. I have never written a negative review before and was a Bed and breakfast Innkeeper myself many years. Do yourself a favor and DO...
Read moreI gave this motel a 1 out of 5 because while our stay there was okay, after I left, I was treated so incredibly bad. They claimed we left the room in bad condition, but my husband and I looked over the room beforehand to make sure nothing was completely out of the ordinary cleaning hotels do. They charged my card, and when I called to talk about it, the housekeeper (Linda, I think) was so horribly rude to me. They did not even bother to call me to explain why they had charged my card. Jill is a very nice woman, but the people employed make this establishment look bad. I paid almost $400 for my stay there, washing some sheets and towels should not be cause for them to treat me the way I was treated. When you pay to stay in one of these establishments, you are paying for housekeeping. I am disgusted with the service provided and will not return, nor will I recommend this establishment to anyone else. You get what you pay for. Next time I will spend the money on somewhere that has more...
Read moreThe Coasties inspected the ferry to ocracoke today which lead to my significant other and I being stranded as all ferries were cancelled after ours. After a bit of panic someone at the ferry office contacted Jill and Sand Dollar and found they had a room. Most places were booked out for the annual pirate celebration and reenactment, but Jill had had some cancellations. She was such a sweetheart, one of the salt of the earth hosts that does their best even at a loss. She and her husband operate this second street motel that is perfect for a couple night on ocracoke easy to walk or golf cart to the whole island. It's centrally located and comes with normal maps and recommendations on sites. They've clearly been in the business awhile, but are local and not just transitionally staff passing through. They can tell you the local spots. The rooms are quite clean both bathroom and bedrooms. It's not a huge house on the water, but a good stop if you're visiting the...
