A busy night for sure , went to get a to go order after asking a passing server where van i placed a to go order, was told to just go to the bar ,I did and waited several minutes before I managed to catch the attention of the bartender for a small bar area which almost made me walk away but really wanted to try some "Fresh oysters " so I waited for my doz of raw oysters probably a good 30 minutes oysters were ok , not impressed at all with the presentation overall I tryed it,but maybe if eating in would be much better it is very noisy for an outdoor type of place a nice place to hang out if out with friends driking I suppose.
MY RESPONSE TO OWNER : thank you for commenting back but there was no live music or band in sight .I believe it was radio 📻 🎶 music either way if it was or wasn't I wasn't turned away to place an order at your restaurant if thats what you guys do when busy which is very respectable to let your patrons know . instead of having them waiting on front by hostess stand with everyone just passing by unless one manages to stop very quickly a waitress to ask how you can get service 😀 other than that the eating inside would of been my option but there was already a line of people sitting with all long bored faces looking to the ones sitting enjoying their drinks conversations and loud music no hurry to leave while others where starving lol 🎶 👌 😎 so yeah that was not an option for me to wait next to those folks 😀 oysters where fresh thats why I gave a 5 star 🌟 thats the very reason why .presentation I meant it because I order the "ceviche" type and the regular raw oysters and sorry but ceviche is a type of dish that I eat very often and know my ceviche its raw cooked fish in lemon juice left for couple of hours on it with your choice of veggies cut up diced etc or whatever meat you use in this case it was oysters so when I opened the box all I seen was open oysters a cilantro leaf and a diced up small tomato this order was a few dollars more than the regular oysters too so technically I paid a few more for cilantro leaf and a small dice tomato I had to add lots of lemon and shrimp sauce and Tabasco to make...
Read moreVery Disappointed. My friend and I love taking trips down to Ocracoke from Kill Devil Hills. We needed a getaway from the kids, our husbands and life on our sand bar. We needed some R&R before we got back into the grind. We both work in the Service industry, so with that being said we know what it's like in the off season as well as when it's full swing. We went to have drinks, dinner and to enjoy listening to music. We were greeted right away by two very sweet ladies. One was a waitress and the other Hostess I believe. We sat at the bar because it was pretty busy. Well we were not as welcome at the bar as when we first walked in. The old guy behind the bar was not very friendly. We had to ask for a drink menu, we had to ask for more drinks? and when we ordered Oysters it took 30 min for them to come out ( I think he forgot to put in the order) They were delicious, However I had to ask for napkins and the only silverware we got was the tiny forks they give you on the wedge of lemon. He barely made eye contact with us. We thought well, maybe he's just having a bad day? Nope he went to the other side of the bar and was very sweet to the other patrons. Smiling carrying on and serving them the way they should be. Seeing that was very upsetting. We didn't ask for much, just to enjoy a night out. The people who sat next to us immediately got menus, napkins and a smile. Sad that this time of year we don't have much to choose from, but your staff should still be thankful for whoever walks through the doors especially this...
Read moreThis place was just Meh. We were lured in by wanting to try local oysters - which they did serve raw and cooked in a variety of ways - some standard (Rockefeller) and some strange ("sushi style" with wasbi, soy and ginger). While they can't help that Ocracoke oysters are also Meh, everything else they serve is just standard Outer Banks fried seafood fare.
They didn't have much in the way of local beers. And they arent the kind of place I would risk ordering a mixed drink.
We ordered fried pickles for appetizer - they were spears coated in corn meal batter with a pretty decent romulade. My oysters were warm (never a good sign) and a tad dry (also not preferred). It was like they were preshucked and just sitting out (but not on ice) waiting to be ordered.
The crabcakes were served on what looked and tasted like a white wonder bread hamburger buns with iceburg luttuce (although hubby said they were meaty and not too much filler). I had the soft shell crab which had the same cornmeal batter coating. Couldn't taste the crab as much as the batter. Glad I didn't order two.
We left feeling a tad gross and greasy - and walked it off on the beach!
The service was good and cordial. There are places on the island with way more creative fare. If this is the kind of food you want, there are better versions up near Kill...
