I have been doing business with Mike @ 12th Street Pawn for over 2 years now. I noticed a distinct difference from other pawn shops I'd been to, mainly the way I am greeted when I walk in. Mike always greets everyone that walks in with a genuine "Hi friend" and "Let me know if you see anything you like." I was greeted that way the very first time I set foot in his shop. Even if I don't buy anything he thanks me for stopping in and welcomes me back. I've been to other pawn shops where they don't even recognize your presence unless you come to the counter with an item to purchase. Mike truly values his customers and I've always gotten a fair deal. Granted, he may seem a bit curt sometimes but that's because he doesn't have time for BS or people that don't know the true value of items they are trying to pawn or buy. He's a business man and is always busy doing research and paperwork. I've purchased a chain saw, a Werner articulating ladder (think Little Giant with a lower price), three TVs, a Blu-Ray player, and a couple of firearms and have always been treated fairly, with respect, and gotten a good deal. Read moreThey are a step above other similar establishments. They treat your item as if it never left your possession when you pawn something. I recently pawned my favorite iPad to afford a prescription for my daughter and they gave it back to me exactly as I gave it to them. Except, they actually put it into a box so that it was safe, since my iPad, though did include its original package, had a case that is a pain to remove so I didn't have it inside its box. That really impressed me, they cared as much about my item as I do .. Will definitely go back if I'm ever in need again .. And highly recommend them to anyone else for pawning and shopping. I wanted to add that I had asked for $30 or $40 and the lady there that day said she could only do $30, I said that's okay, I can make that work. But when she handed me the paper and money she did lend me the $40 I needed. That was so nice and unexpected so I was already a satisfied customer. But when I came back, a week later than I thought I would, they were just as kind as the first time. So .....
Read moreI didn't have the greatest experience, but I may have just been in a persnickity mood today. The owner was kind enough to reply without getting personal and I'll try to do the same. I understand he may have had a problem with theft in the past and I get that, but not every potential client is dishonest. He totally freaked out when I opened the case to inspect a $3 CD. Just my opinion, but I guarantee you that I went in feeling mellow and came out a bit perturbed. You lost a sale today, but there's always tomorrow. Coleen gave you high marks and had some wisdom to impart on me today. It's been a rough year for us all, so I'll dial back my comments a bit in the hope for a smoother visit next time.
