I had never been to Nearly New, until shopping for a wedding dress, but now I will 100% return again and again! Hattie is so professional, well spoken, helpful, and fun! She listened to what I was looking for and we pulled several dresses to try on. She was extremely helpful and kind in helping me get in and out of dresses comfortably. She is so skilled at what she does and shared so much helpful advice and comments. I walked away with a stunning dress (well within my budget) and a tailor recommendation that I trust! So thankful for Nearly New, and for Hattie and David’s help! I would absolutely recommend to anyone, but especially brides who want a great experience and a great price!!!

I have been to this store several times, even bringing friends & family along. Just in the last 6 weeks I've bought a formal there for myself, my daughter, and a best friend who I brought along bought one as well. The staff there have never been the most friendly & helpful, but its never been over-the-top bad either, until today.

I had picked 7 formals to try on, with 2 formal events coming up to attend within the next 3 weeks so I had every intention of purchasing 2 dresses. My daughter had 6 formals to try on. Apparently, you can not try on more than 3 at a time, which is fine, I assumed (wrongly in my case) that the large empty rack next to the dressing rooms were to hold the excess so you could trade out dresses rather than have to fully dress in your clothes and go all the way back to the other side of the store after 3 more dresses.

Now, they did allow my daughter the option to try on 3 of her selections and leave 3 on the rack to change out. But that option wasn't allowed for me. To further add insult to injury, the man (owner or at least regular employee as he is always there) took my entire selections of 7 dresses from my hands and put them all back up. I wasn't allowed to even retain 3 dresses to try on. He unapologetically just took them all away and told me I could go back and find them again but only 3. Is that how you treat customers? At the very least, he could have left 3 of my 7 selected to try on.

I've never felt to demeaned at a clothing store, especially one I've shopped at before and made purchases. I didn't make a scene. I didn't argue. I was in absolute shock that this was how I was being treated though and made up my mind that I'd never be back, spend another dime there, and that I'd be sure to leave a review so everyone has warning before they go there. Worst customer experience I have ever had in my entire life!!! Oh, did I mention this was done in front of 5 other customers. The looks on their faces were also of shock.

Went to another formal resale shop once I left Nearly New. It is in Yukon, a little bit further drive, but at the other place I had a wonderful and positive experience. Looks like I found my new formal place and it isn't Nearly New. If I could give negative stars for how they treated me today, I would. No one is asking for special treatment here, but at the very least you should treat your customers with dignity and general kindness.

Update The owner “friends requested” me on Facebook a few months ago. I thought maybe he wanted to apologize for how he treated me and attempt to show some regard for a customer who’d bought no less than 3 formals from his business in the past, as well as bringing him customers who have purchased, too. Nope...that was wishful thinking, I guess. Instead he pm’d a “poke” to me...you know, like skeevy weirdos do on Facebook. Not sure if that was his way of taunting or what...Can he really be that socially awkward and oblivious to how such would be received? I just blocked him after that. Still haven’t darkened this business’s doorway since the incident and have ensured that several friends & contacts are aware of alternative stores they can go to for nice used formals. I feel sorry for...

My sister and I visited to browse for her wedding dress. Our experience was much like others who have made reviews. Honestly, if I were someone who has placed their clothes for sale through consignment with them, I would not be happy that so many potential buyers were being treated in such a way.

Like others, we were met at the door by a woman holding a stick who made sure we did not come in since we weren't wearing masks at that moment. My sister kindly asked if they had any, and the brash lady said "No." My sister and I don't mind wearing masks, and while standing there my sister started looking through her purse for a couple masks. I was patiently holding the door as she looked, and the lady rudely said, "Let's let the outside stay outside," and pulled the door shut. It was cold, so I understand letting the door shut, however the manner in which the woman spoke was poor.

My sister and I found masks in the car and then made our way inside. When we came in, the same woman asked what we were looking for. My sister stated, "Wedding dresses," to which the woman said, "You have to make an appointment in order to see those, and we have an appointment coming at 3 and we'll close at 4." (For reference, it was about 2:30 at the time) My sister replied, "Ok, so could I just browse?" The woman curtly said, "No," then said "I could get you a business card to set up the appointment." My sister declined and we simply left.

The whole interaction was less than 10 minutes of time, and we spent none of that time looking at any of the inventory. Nowhere online does it make it clear that an appointment is needed to even view the wedding dresses. Nor is it posted online that masks are required for entry. There is only a sign on the door.

What is posted online is this: "We keep your clothes in the store for 60 days. When your clothes sell in that time period you will receive a 40% commission. Unsold items become the property of Nearly New and donated at their discretion." This in turn means that they also get the tax benefit from donating such unsold items. So the ones truly being hurt by such poor business practices and customer interactions are actually those who are trying to sell through consignment with them.

This said, I would advise against either shopping or selling...

First, I do not see how people can have such vastly different experiences at this place. I bought dresses there a few years ago and the experience was fine. This time was HORRIFYING.

I was just there on Saturday and was trying on cocktail dresses in their dressing room that had no mirror. And as the owner was standing right outside the dressing room, I didn't want to come out every time just to see if the dress looked okay. It felt very uncomfortable.

I needed help zipping a strapless cocktail dress so I asked my husband to come in and help. (I was not about to go out in front of everyone and expose myself) After my husband helped me he went out and the owner told us that "men are not allowed in the dressing rooms". My husband told him he was helping me try and zip a dress, but the owner replied in a sarcastic, nasty tone that it "took way too long to just help zip a dress, guy."

Meanwhile the owner was standing outside the dressing room commenting on a young woman's dress every time she came out to look at herself. Also, the sales woman there commented that the young lady could just "go on a diet and exercise and the dress might work". REALLY?

After I dressed and came out of the dressing room I asked the owner if he was accusing us of something other than trying on clothes. He rudely said, "it's a women's only dressing room and he was in there MORE than long enough to just zip a dress." Of course, he wouldn't look me in the eye when he said that.

After I posted this story to my own Facebook wall, I learned from many people that they had a similar negative experience. I am stunned that someone would run a business like this. However, the great thing about word-of-mouth advertising is that it gets around, so you should consider treating people with respect...
