Worst card shop in town in terms of selling cards. They pay 35% of market value which is terrible compared to every other card shop in town that gives 50%/60%. Not only that but they 'require an appointment' to sell cards. I came in with a stack of about 30 cards 45 min before closing and they refused to buy them because I didn't 'make an appointment' (I drove 5 min down the street to Collectives Corner afterwards and the lady searched all my cards and gave me a price in about 10 minutes) I've been to 3 other card shops in the Omaha area and not a single one required an appointment. The main reason I'm leaving this review is the tone and way the staff spoke to me when I asked for their help. I asked if I could sell my Yu-Gi-Oh cards they responded 'our yugioh guy isn't here' Anyone whose in the card scene knows you can just search market prices on cards with TCGplayer, when I brought that up to them they said 'oh we know' and stared at me blankly refusing to help me. Next I asked 'What about my pokemon cards, is that guy here?' to which he responded 'Yes it's me actually, but I can't help someone who comes in 45 minutes before close with a stack of cards and no appointment' I understand they have rules in place but I literally drove that stack of cards 5 min away to another store and it only took her 10 minutes to have me out the door and happy. At the end of the day people in the card trading community should have each other's backs and all I got from Dragons Lair was a bunch of responses you'd expect from a recorded line. Walked out of there feeling like nothing but numbers to them, went 5 min away to another shop and got treated like a normal human being, it's the stark contrast of the 2 interactions I had within a 20 min period that really left me feeling like they could've treated me...
Read moreI loved this place as a kid. Between the ages of 7 and 20 this place was my home away from home. I lived in the Hillside neighborhood, four blocks away. I could walk out of my front door, down to the street and I would be able to tell if Dragon's Lair was open or not. I spent years, sneaking out of the house, hopping between Jake's, Dragon's Lair and Mary's. I remember going through the entrance that was in the alleyway, before both of their major expansions. All this is to say, I've been around the block with these guys. They are the real deal, OG comic book and D&D gaming location in Omaha. I spent hours a day thumbing through the back issues bins. Tortured myself deciding what quarter comics I could spend $1 on. And to this day the sounds of NeoGeo and Street Fighter 2 instantly make me think of the shop. The only real criticism I have is the customer service that others mention. Listen, there was nothing bad said or done BUT, even after everything I laid out, they NEVER acted like they knew me, acknowledged me, recognized me, liked seeing me, NOTHING. Untold number of punch cards were offered to me by Bob despite him offering one to me mere days prior. The only time I was ever remembered was in the early 90's when a guy named Donnie was in charge of the sports cards. He was a cool guy that made me and my buddies feel like valued customers. All the others? Forget it. Sharon was a super sweet lady but she too never seemed to really invest in customers. Growing up in that little strip with shops and spending every dollar I made mowing grass or shoving snow was not a bad way go through...
Read moreThis is a NEGATIVE review. I rate it five stars only because I like the other location. I went in there to pick up a comic that came out today and stumbled upon another one I was interested in. I was looking through the variants and found one with a $10 tag on it. Which was strange because the sticker with the comic listed on it at the back of the comics said $5.99, like a regular priced new comic.
I took it up to the counter and asked the guy why there is a $10 tag on this $5.99 comic? He told me because it was "a foil" and that's why. I took him over and showed him the $5.99 sticker price with the FOIL listed on the tag. He took it up to his manager and asked him what the price was.
Homeboy didn't even bother coming up to me, he just yelled "Yeah, that $5.99 price is what we buy it for, so $10 is what we sell it for" from across the store talking to his buddy. I just put my thumbs up, grabbed a different $5.99 cover, what I originally went in there for and left.
I get it's a business, but please don't tell me that you're overcharging me on purpose. Pull the sticker? Will never go back to this location, and I'm sure they're okay with that. Because it seems like they didn't want me there in the...
