Let me preface this review by saying we love Costco. Unfortunately, we live far away from the nearest Costco. This is the closest to our home. And yet we will never set foot in this one again. It’s almost the antithesis of Costco. We recognize our opinion differs from many here. And that’s ok. Hear us out.
It’s almost always crowded. The parking is rarely sufficient. The store size seems a little bit smaller than the prototypes I’m used to but that might be because of the crowds.
But what sets this out in the annals of bad Costcos are its employees and management. Yes, you heard right. A company in which we investors and praise itself and having outstanding management and employees consistently completely misses the market at this particular location. It’s a blot and a stain on such a well run company.
While we had many mediocre incidents here, it was one that put us over the top. My wife went shopping there shortly after I had recently had major heart surgery. I stayed in the car because of that and because we had our grandchildren with us, one of whom was not feeling well. Simply put: My limited mobility made it too difficult to navigate the store.
After choosing several hundred dollars of supplies - as is our wont — my wife proceeded to check out. She had to use my card because I am the card holder. She even took my phone and my ID with her to try to avoid problems. The cashier and the management turned into blind eye to her and to my physical condition, stating that it had to be inside the store in order to make this purchase. That wasn’t possible. It was too hard for me to walk into the store, and I wasn’t about to abandon my grandchildren. Heaven forbid someone tried to think outside the box and send an employee outside to verify that I was actually there in the parking lot.
Avoid this Costco like you would the bubonic plague. We actually let our membership lapse for a while as a result of this horrible treatment, and then renewed with the condition that we vowed to never walk into this dump again. Fortunately, another store had opened in Plainfield that is the polar opposite of the Orland Park outlet. Everyone there is so courteous, kind, and efficient. And I recovered well from my surgery such that I enjoy walking in that store. We also order more online.
As Costco evangelists we encourage everyone we know to shop there. But take a wrecking ball to this place and to its...
Read moreGreatly stocked most of the time we find the items we need and always fresh and great deals but the problem is the employees . A few complaints once manager(male balding hair ) made us feel he was accusing us of stealing we purchased the last wagon other person in charge of department brought it down and gave us the tag to give cashier since no box . He saw my son sitting on it and loudly yelled at the cashier to make sure we pay for the wagon . The cashier didn't like the way he said it took the price tag we bought him and showed him and told him we bought it to him and told him . Second issue the cashiers when they see ebt card on your hands they start handaling the groceries hard like throwing them or just rough they seem to get mad when they see the card . Lastly food court the African American girl does a great job and works fast but she needs better costumer service she ignores the people when they go to order paying cash . She was once asked by a wheelchair person a water cup placed it in the counter and told her she had to get it placed in the middle of the counter not even stretched trying to help her or nothing we helped the costumer get it . Also when we place order for whole pizza gets bother when you ask for parmasan and plates keep in mind is one pizza and 4 plates is enough . Also would be nice if carts where kept of the road so when people coming from the side of the building didn't get almost hit by cars . And would also be nice if their was some form of wipes or sanitizer for the cars . Another issue one time we got a salad sample and had almonds in it and there was no warning of may contain nuts. Have seen employees organizing the clothes store items that are in clearance in their cart and not to set...
Read moreMy wife and I shop at this Costco location very regularly and that has been many occasions in which we have noticed discrimination. This pass Sunday was the tipping point for me. My wife and I was at the register and we told the cashier that our groceries will be scan separately to split the cost. Keep in mind that I am the owner of both memberships. After my items was scanned and paid for it, I told the casher to scan my wife using the same Costco membership card and the cashier refused saying that she needed my wife membership card, that was the final tipping point for me at the store. I told my wife to not show her membership card and the cashier will have to use mine. It doesn’t make any sense when I am the owner of both Costco memberships. The cashier called a floor manager and the floor manager told the cashier to scan the rest of my groceries. I also purchased a watch and when I gave the watch slip to the cashier to scan, the cashier snatched the paper from my hand that triggered my wife. Another manager came and apologized to us. This was very disappointing and we felt discriminated. There are about 1% black personnel working at the store. Also when we are walking out of the store after our groceries have been scanned the employees at the door tried to double check every groceries we have in our cart to match the receipt. On a previous occasion, my wife and I purchased an area rug and the store supervisor said that there’s no space to store our rug at the store. And keep in mind this is a very large Warehouse. My wife had to asked a store manager who said it is not a problem. The store needs to review their policy because it is very...
