Edit: Google notified me of my review posting and suspiciously enough the barber I called out suddenly got three 5 star reviews immediately after my review went live.
Tl;dr - Booked a cut, showed a photo of me with the haircut I wanted (with minor change from skin to 2), ended up with a cut I didn't want.
I debated on posting this review, but felt it's necessary to share my experience.
Before I begin, I don't know who I should be mad at, myself for booking an appointment here or the barber for the cut he gave me.
I don't understand the hype. Before I booked, I asked if all people are versed in men's haircuts and was assured I was (see photo). So I went ahead and booked for any barber because if they're all versed, then it shouldn't matter who I got.
I made the appointment and when I went in I told them I made an appt and one of the barber's (I believe the site says his name was Adelbert) said to sit in his seat. I did and when he asked what I wanted I pulled out photos of myself with a haircut I had gotten back in Feb of this year.
For reference it'a a 2 block with a skin fade and weight taken off the top, but there's still length on top. The only change I asked was the length of the fade to be no less than a 2 because I don't like skin fades and bangs just above eyebrows. I showed him every angle and asked if he needs to keep seeing it and he said no, he got it.
Trusting his ability, I let him do his thing and then came the moment he cut too high on the sides. At that point there's nothing you can do, but let them even it out.
I did tell him he cut too high, but not much you can do at that point. He continues the sides then starts the top. I asked for weight off, he just randomly starts cutting with the scissors that add texture and removes weight and eventually (because of lack of focus or something idk) catches part of my bangs and cuts a part of it shorter than it already was. So now he had to fix it again by cutting the rest of it shorter.
Then tries to say I have a cowlick there that's why it looks shorter, called him out on that and then changes the narrative from cowlick to that's how my hair dried after using scissors and blow dryer.
At this point he knows I'm upset. He lines up the rest of the hair and then ask him to show me the back of my head. It was nothing like I asked and he even said he saw the photos and knew that's not what I wanted.
The entire haircut felt rushed too.
Only silver lining is he didn't charge me for it, but that's really all I can ask for since now I have to wait for my hair to grow and fix my hair the way I wanted it in the first place.
Overall this place felt very much like I'd imagine a supercuts would be. Quick haircuts for quick turnover for the most profit. This doesn't necessarily mean it's a quality cut unfortunately.
I can't speak on the skills of the other barbers or the other services they offer. I feel if you have a very basic haircut like a buzzcut or a 4 all over, then this works just fine. Maybe even a shape-up is fine here too, I didn't like mine (blocky as hell, could play tetris with how blocky it looks), but could be a virtue of my entire cut being not what I wanted.
Personally I would have preferred if he told me straight up that my hair cut request wasn't in his wheelhouse, which is totally fine, but having to get what I did was rather...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf youāre new or found this place on the trans inclusive barber site. Get a cut at your own risk. I get I was 10 minutes late and had no way of letting Minor know, still, thatās no excuse to give below par effort. I regret tipping Minor (which I only did because itās in my nature to tip for a service which gonna change now). Lastly, I get I didnāt have references, letās be for real. Cutting hair is nothing new and itās been around longer than pictures. Itās unfortunate it took me getting a bad cut, being as descriptive as possible, showing with my hand where to stop, and talking it over with him afterwards. What I wanted was called a mullet. Which that last part proves a reference isnāt a necessity. Minor took advantage of this which leads me here. Heās showing me in the mirror and Iām telling him this isnāt what I wanted. All he could say was āsounds like you wanted something differentā yes, because I did! He took ONE out of the many things I said and did, then ran with it. Which Iām positive heās playing this up because there were a couple of people there and one of them was another barber. Iām asking for his advice after he wanted to know how much off the top I wanted to cut. I tell him I have to go to work. I donāt know how to style this and have it look professional. He wouldnāt even look at me and fiddling with his hand saying āitās up to youā. Oh! After you went awol on my cut, now itās up to me how it looks. I have terrible anxiety and developmental issues, this is setting me back more than Minor could possibly understand. Itās already hard enough to find a barber (which I was only able to start getting comfortable with people touching my hair a couple of years ago). I moved here recently from out of state, so Welcome to Orlando * sarcasm*
Ps: I get itās hair and it will grow back. Any cut someone gets is considered semipermanent. Like yea, itāll grow back and until then Iām going to have to live with this. Itās not going to grow back over night or in a couple of days. This is going to take months before it comes back to the point where I can do something...
