I wish this was a five star review! It's not. Here are the things I would give five stars: Nice fabric selection, good array of notions, nice range of quality sewing supplies. I have taken a few classes and I was impressed with the quality of the instruction from the teacher (who is not the owner). I also have heard that their repair work is very high quality (I have not experienced it myself, but I know people who have used them for machine repairs and were very satisfied.) Here's what I would not rate highly: the owner believes that he is entitled to sell you an expensive sewing machine, and if you don't buy from him, he feels entitled to be rude to you about it. He was insulting and condescending to me about my machine when I took a class at his store and was trying to troubleshoot an issue I was having (which I have since figured out on my own.) The sewing machine I purchased is not a piece of junk from the Joann Fabrics clearance section - it's a mid range Bernette, a line owned by Bernina, a company Murray's is a vendor for but they do not stock anything from the Bernette line (which makes no sense to me, I'm just gonna keep buying accessories I want from other places instead of from them, even though it means driving off Cape or paying for shipping). I would have written Bill's comments off as him having a bad day, or a misunderstanding, but then I found out a few days later that Bill was also rude to a friend of mine who came into his store looking for a part. He told my friend their machine was "too cheap" and that they "should have spent more money if [they] wanted a good machine" instead of just telling them he couldn't order the part they were looking for. Bill, I understand that sewing machines keep your store in business, however, you are not actually entitled to sell someone a sewing machine, many of which cost as much as a mortgage payment, just because they entered your store. To be frank, get over yourself. The internet exists, you are not the only game in town and everyone who you are rude to can go anywhere else they want to instead of spending money with you. If anyone reading this wants to buy a sewing machine and doesn't have a massive budget, I do not suggest doing it here! Go to Gather Here in Boston instead. They were awesome and treated me with respect even though I wasn't buying something top...
Read moreAwesome! I froze up my Viking 210, ugh!!! Panic!! I've had the sewing machine for over 35 years and never had a problem, such a work horse. I took it in to Murray's and Bill did such a wonderful job fixing it, though the motor was not available we were able to find a fix. When he took it apart, the motor burned out because of another issue and Bill took care of it and got it to work!! I am thrilled! It runs really really well now!! Like new! He is so knowledgeable about machines, threads and notions, it's amazing! I was so lucky to find him! Definitely my go to place now for...
Read moreI read some other reviews and kind of wonder if they are taking about the same place. We recently bought a sewing machine there and had a very good experience. Helpful staff, all questions answered, nice selection, etc. Now we're looking forward to the intro class which is INCLUDED with our purchase. AND they have a great buy-back program if we want to upgrade in the future.
Does the "discount sewing site" on the internet offer that?
I'm just thrilled we have this great resource right...
