Oceana — Local services in Orleans

I have been going to Oceana for years....and I love the story. But I am not going back again. Yesterday, my friend and I visited. We were "greeted" at the door by an employee who insisted that I use Purell before entering. I had just use disinfectant, but told her that I do not use Purell, and I prefer wipes. She said "take one out and use it now." Not wanting a problem, I did. So that was awkward, but it did not end there. Another lady followed my friend around the store asking her repeatedly what she was looking for. She felt like she was being stalked--and that she was being observed because they thought she might steal. More ackwardness. A business call came in on my cell phone. I pulled my mask down to speak, and after the call, this employee ordered me to pull my mask up! I was now embarrassed--and considered leaving. But there were a few things I needed to get. So I went to check out. I spent almost $200. No thank you...but when I left, I was again "ordered" by this crew to leave through the exit door. This employee gave me a dirty look like I was a problem, and she was glad I was leaving. To say the least, my friend and I were appalled. If this is the way you are going to treat people, I cannot imagine that you will stay in business for long in a weak economy where you offer nothing essential. I take COVID seriously, but there is a polite way to enforce your "rules." You do not seem to have the basic manners to do that. How hard it is to understand that if you make customers feel bad they are not going to want...

Oceana is and HAS been my absolute favorite gift shop on the Cape for beautiful, unique Cape Cod and seashore related gifts. Over the years I have purchased lovely glass paperweights and jewelry along the many other products that they carry, many handmade like the beautiful humpback whale wooden sculptures that I saw yesterday. A favorite of mine is also their pewter line of goods from oyster keychains to delicate pewter horseshoe crabs. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for and the wrapping job that they do for gifts is phenomenal! A MUST- SEE for...

Oceana is one of my favorite places to shop. I love all their items and the staff are so wonderful and friendly! I just went there last week and I am always nervous going shopping now. But their covid protocols made me feel so safe. Everyone was wearing masks but I was still able to have wonderful conversations with the staff as they helped me find the perfect gift.
