Regrettably, I did not take photos - maybe next time. Got take out for the night before Mother's Day. Ordered a cup of clam chowder, 2*Fish & Chips, a Hot Dog with Fries, a cheeseburger cooked medium with lettuce and tomato, a baked potato, and a slice of blueberry pie. Cost was $99 and change - reasonable in this area for a dinner for four people, and the quantity of food delivered was really more than ample.
Clam chowder was excellent. Delivered with two packs of oyster crackers. Creamy, full to the top of the container, full of clams, potatoes, all the expected bits, perfect temperature, among the best in the area (other exceptional chowder in the area is Sir Cricket's).
Fish and chips was good but not great, but there was plenty of it. It was perfectly cooked and the coating was thin and crispy. What kept it from being a little better was that it was, honestly, rather bland. It came with tartar sauce, two lemon wedges, and cole slaw (which was very good), and heaps of long, thin-cut fries that I couldn't finish. Fries were perfectly cooked, ideally salted. All in all, I dunno, maybe 4*/5 for the fish & chips. It just seemed a little flavorless.
Son, who wasn't feeling very well to start with, got a plain hot dog. It did the job of a hot dog, LOL. That is, it was a good hot dog. Son didn't finish the fries and ended up going up to bed early. Certainly not Land Ho's fault.
Other child ordered cheeseburger cooked medium. This is where we drop the stars. Cheeseburger was, by everyone's agreement, both burned and overcooked. We could have brought it back, but doing that with a take out order is a hassle. But honestly, either the line cook was new, or s/he didn't care, because the burger was awful. And it was a burger, you know? It just didn't show the same level of care as everything else.
I've been a Cape resident since the 80's, but haven't been to L-H in a while. I'd like to give them another try because everything but that burger was what I'd like to expect - but for a place like this, they ought to be able to nail a burger.
Child two ended up devouring the potato for dinner because they didn't feel like having anything else and they don't like fish. As to the pie, I haven't had it yet, but the piece is enormous and looks really good. Will edit when I've eaten it.
One last thing - I used to have hot pastrami sandwiches here that were the best I'd ever eaten. I was really disappointed to see that they weren't on the menu any more - if L-H sees this, am I missing something? I'd definitely come back if they're there and I just didn't spot them. Especially if someone fixes the burger issue.
Happy up and coming Summer...
Read moreI give it 2 stars because I can't deny that the food was superb. The service however, was probably the worst I've ever had. It took nearly 20 minutes for a waitress to appear and take our drink order, then another 20 minutes to get them; she forgot mine and told that I must have come in after she took the order. Not a big deal, right? Took another ten minutes to get my diet coke. After that we watched table after table get seated and be served! I finally flagged the waitress down and asked to order our meals. We asked if there was a problem and the waitress said no but offered no apologies or explanation..
We ordered our meals and waited about 1/2 hour for our meals, all the while watching tables get seated and served. Some tables that got seated after we arrived had actually eaten and left. Again we asked the waitress if there was a problem, again she was blank and unapologetic. When our food finally came, she forgot one of our orders! No apologies to us as we waited for our comanions meal to arrive! The meal was delicious.
After the meal we had to again chase the waitress, who it appeared was avoiding eye contact with is at this point, to get the check, which she screwed up; we'd asked for separate checks and she put it all together.
In short, if you want to be treated poorly for good food, go for it. Just avoid the waitress with the short blonde hair. If your dignity is worth more than that, stay away. We go down to hunt on the Cape every year and this is the second year in a row that this has happened. We won't go...
Read moreDo not go here if you're on a holiday looking for good food. Where to begin? My mother's salad was just lettuce with dressing and flavorless croutons. My burger (should have taken a photo) was literally a patty and some cheese (which costs extra.) I inquire about toppings. Extra for lettuce and tomato. I've never seen this in my life. Talk about markups and cutting corners. This burger meal looked so sad. I can't believe the owners would serve this up to a customer. Our impression was that they do not care about customer service, presentation, or take any pride in their food. By that time I'm just plain disappointed we spent our last evening here. The wings were coated in rock hard batter and without flavor. The potato skins had maybe three pieces of bacon, gobs of cheese, and hardly any scallions.... The ginger ales were weak and when we told the server, she didn't seem very bothered. It seems they only excel in deep frying. And it's expensive. I regret not going to another place that would have been just as expensive and the food seemed way more intriguing. I chose this place based on reviews and it seemed family friendly. Great ambiance but weak and bland food. Lots of catching up to do here. We were...
