Academy Sports + Outdoors — Local services in Owensboro

I was treated shamefully, my husband is a disabled Vietnam Veteran and we have been looking for an electric cooler to keep close to his chair. He is not very mobile, so I do everything I can to make his life as comfortable as possible. We were told a couple weeks ago his time is very short, he needs a heart/lung transplant but wouldn’t survive it if they could do it. Anyway we found the coolers online, but since they are rather expensive we would like to buy it locally if possible to keep the money here in our home state. So I went to Academy, asked the young man politely if they carried them, and he acted as if I were an idiot, snickering and laughing, he said no they didn’t have anything like that, but hang on he would call the back and make sure, and he and another young man continued to snicker and laugh. Finally he said nope they didn’t, I asked did they at least have ice packs? He said yes, they had those somewhere in the back and and walked away laughing. I will spend my money somewhere that appreciate it, and treats people at least with a little bit of respect. Sheila Staples hurt...

Service was fine enough. Shelves were not well stocked because of COVID (not their fault). I was more appalled at how few regulations were followed at the store. Employees had mass on but pulled them down below their noses, sometimes all the way down below their chins. No one was sanitizing carts, no one was making sure people stayed 6 ft apart. Worse, the checkout area is not made to be COVID safe. Cashiers stood behind plexiglass casing that only covered a portion of the counter and did not cover the portion of the counter where customers have to pay using their credit cards. The store has a sign up saying that it requires masks, but no one was enforcing that rule at all. Honestly, I would feel more comfortable spending my money there if the store spent more of an effort to follow COVID-19...

So we went to purchase a Savage Axis 30.06 and when we get to the firearms counter there's an employee there named Clyde. Rude is putting it mildly! My husband asked if they have any Savage 30.06's. Clyde says they have all kinds of savages. Jason says a 30.06. The man proceeds to look at him like he's ignorant. Jason says a bolt action, Clyde says they're all bolt action, being very patronizing! So I had to actually pull it up on my phone and read the description word for word. Horrible salesman, trying to make people feel stupid. If there had been another place in town to buy the gun or if I were making the purchase, I 100% would have went somewhere else.
