Here's a letter I just wrote to Malco management:
I went to the Owensboro Malco Cinema on Saturday, January 3, and watched Unbroken during the afternoon showing (3:00 p.m.?). The ticket counter was fluid and the employees friendly. The sound in the theater was very good. However, I have two complaints about my movie experience. The smell. The building has the typical theater smells of people and popcorn. But the screening room for Unbroken smelled awful--a nasty combination of wet socks, farts, and stale popcorn. I've heard locals say similar in the past about this theater, but have never experienced it as bad as it was on the 3rd. Surely a small daily dose of Glade or Febreze would do wonders to improve the smell of this complex and enhance the olfactory experience of your customers! The screen. There were many spitballs and/or other pieces of junk on this screen. I complained about this the last time I was there (2 years ago?) as well. I don't know how they got there, but I don't care. The screen just NEEDS TO BE CLEANED! This was very distracting during the movie, especially during any brighter scenes. What's the point of having a high-definition picture when your screen has crap all over it?
These are two of the biggest reasons I rarely go watch movies at the Owensboro Malco. I LOVE movies. The huge sound and picture cannot be replaced. But the last few years I have resorted to a nearby drive-in and enhancing my own home theater as an imperfect substitute for this poorly-run venue. I promise you I would attend more frequently if the Malco smelled better and cleaned the screens. (I would attend MUCH more frequently if tickets were cheaper, but that's another story.) Then again, I have complained about these issues before--including to the local on-staff manager--and nothing seems to have been done about it, so I really don't expect much to change.
Thanks...
Read moreThis was the best experience i have had in a very long time. For some reason this movie theatre is probably the best thing to happen to Owensboro. Finally i have found a place where i can drop off my 16 year old and know they are watching just PG and G movies (as my kids would never lie to me). I know that they aren't skipping theatres and going to rated R movies with sex and cussing and drugs in them.
Finally i have the opportunity to leave my kid at a safe place instead of leaving them at the mall where they get hit on by older men and women with smelly hair. I'm glad to know that me and my wife can now go out to eat and get rid of the kids for a couple of hours.
Also, i love it when Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit or Harry Potter films come out because they're 3+ hours long and my wife and I can finally get a break from our kids.
The theatre is always guarded by Owensboro Police that constantly walk up and down the halls, and monitor the teens making out in the theatre.
The pricing is amazing, you can't beat the ticket prices or the popcorn and coke prices, i didn't expect them to be so cheap! Candy is not all that bad on pricing either! Same prices you would pay in a Wal-Mart or Dollar General.
Malco Cinema 16 is the ONLY absolute! It is the ultimate truth in the theatre business. It answers all the questions of why and how. It has been the savior of the community. It is THE GOSPEL. It is the MALCO. Praise to Malco!
So glad to have Malco Cinema 16 in...
Read moreWent to see a movie at 12:15 pm on Friday afternoon. We bought tickets at Kiosk and went to order a medium popcorn and medium diet coke. As we sat down and began to eat the popcorn, it was cold and stale. I started walking out the theater to go back to the concession stand with my bag of popcorn in hand. Two other people saw me and stated how cold and stale their popcorn was. We all 3 went to the concession stand and I asked the employee if the popcorn was fresh and she said it was last night because the theater just opened. I was shocked that the theater did not treat all patrons the same. I paid my money for a movie and popcorn with a drink. One lady that was with me asked how long would it take to make fresh popcorn. The employee said she didn't really know. I asked for a refund at this point. The manager said that she couldn't provide a time for fresh popcorn. I stated that everyone deserved to be treated the same and it didn't matter if they were the first or last customer. She again said, "We just opened" She stated this at least twice. I truly was sad that she thought this explanation or excuse was justifiable for treating customers like this. I asked for a refund and she did refund the cost BUT never ONCE Apologized. I find it very disheartening that this theater demonstrated such a lack of concern for early patrons being treated with the same service and experience as other...
