I ordered the Chow Mein lunch special through Big O delivery. The rice was okay, the soup was wierd but not bad, the Chow Mein though wasn't Chow Mein at all. I got a strange boiled cabbage, onion and chicken dish. No noodles at all. When I called to get it fixed, the restaurant tried to say that's what Chow Mein is. They wouldn't fix my order because they said Chow Mein is not a noodle dish. Seriously, I am never ordering from them again. I really wanted those noodles and without them the decent rice and soup made for a miserable meal.
I have done some research and discovered that, in the USA, there are two types of Chow Mein. West coast style is what I was expecting, pan-fried noodles with veggies and protein on top. What I was served was apparently NYC style Chow Mein, mostly veggies with little crispy strips in place of noodles. I will give chopsticks that by NYC standards what they served is Chow Mein. However, it was still rather unpleasant as a dish and the restaurant is kinda asking for confusion given that they have it listed on their first lunch special as a choice between Lo Mein (soft noodles) and Chow Mein (crispy noodles to those of us from the west coast). With these two points taken into account, I stand by my original rating but I did want to be fair to Chopsticks by explaining...
Read moreEvery item on the menu with a Pepper Symbol is supposed to be Hot and Spicy, but they lack the basic knowledge and spices necessary to prepare Hot and Spicy dishes. The Hot and Spicy dishes are bland and boring, even though I have asked twice for the dishes to be prepared Extra Spicy. Everything tastes like they are adding Karo Syrup instead of Sichuan Pepper or even Cayenne Pepper, so everything is super sweet and never spicy. If I wanted to drink Karo Syrup, I could have stayed home. Hence, this is a restaurant to be avoided since they do not know how to prepare authentic...
Read moreMy wife ordered crab rangoon appetizer. It was just ok. She also ordered the beef lo mein. Beef was ok and the noodles and sauce were good. I ordered the general tso. Expecting the sauce to be a little spicy like most general tso dishes but it was bland. No flavor and no spice. Chicken in the General Tso was stringy and chewy. Seemed very low quality to me. It was gross. I couldn't eat it. Maybe they used the "velveting" technique on it. Won't return to this restaurant. FYI...Walmart hot deli has the best General Tso I've ever had....
