I came into Aveda to get the bottom of my hair dyed ombre blue and Aliyah and Essence did a fantastic job. I'd had Aliyah before as a stylist for cutting my hair before so I was really happy to get her again. Both of them were incredibly kind and paid attention to my personality as this super long treatment was happening and respected that for the most part I want to just listen to them talk, only chiming in when I felt comfortable. They also checked in on me multiple times over the course of the appointment and made sure I was doing alright and kept me apprised of what was happening. Because of how dark my hair was and what I wanted we ended up needing to do a highlight and then the vibrant blue. I absolutely love how it's turned out and keep getting compliments about how good it looks.
While Aliyah and Essence get 5 stars each Miss Jasmine their instructor gets 0 stars. There were a few hiccups over the course of the appointment all of which were caused by their instructor. The first of which is that even though my stylists had a good plan initially to bleach the bottom of my hair, the instructor told them that to get the vibrant blue I wanted that that wasn't necessary. They changed their plan to do what the instructor was telling them to do and 5 hours later when they finished with the blue it was very muddled. My stylist had noticed almost immediately that it wasn't what I wanted and before the dye was finished being washed out and immediately waved over the instructor to try and figure out how to tell me it hadn't quite turned out right. Miss Jasmine then tried to covertly tell them, while I'm right below her, to "just don't tell her, she's already here just do the bleach wash while she's here, just don't tell her." Fortunately, my stylists had the integrity, to then go ask for advice from a different instructor, because they didn't want to lie to me, and knew doing a bleach wash without my informed consent wasn't an appropriate response. The different instructor came over evaluated my hair and then explained that the color hadn't taken like they wanted and then explained the process to try and correct the mistake if that was what I wanted. The process to correct it and get the color to vibrancy that I had requested was to do a bleach wash and then do what Essence and Aliyah had planned to do initially before Miss Jasmine changed their plan. Part way through finishing my service this same instructor then incredibly rudely forced my lead stylist to go take a lunch break. I understand that as an instructor it was her job to make sure her students took lunch, what wasn't her job was the condescension with which she addressed her student who tried to explain that while she hadn't clocked out for lunch yet she had in fact just taken a half hour lunch while we waited for the bleach to process. The instructor ignored the student and took over for her in dyeing my hair blue. I felt incredibly awkward while this person who didn't even introduce herself to me or even ask my name then started to manhandle my hair. With how rude she'd been to her students I didn't feel like I could say anything for the rest of the time she was working on my hair and was so incredibly glad when Aliyah was able to come back from her lunch and finish the service.
In Summary Aliyah and Essence were fantastic and my hair looks great. I plan on coming back to...
Read moreThis is a school so I guess I couldn't expect to get what I wanted which I understand, but the unprofessional student I was given for my hair was beyond disappointing. They allowed Liz to do highlights in my hair and this was her first time doing so, on top of the fact I have really curly hair so they should have paired me with someone who had more experience. I tried to hold my judgement but I noticed from the very beginning she was high. I thought okay maybe shes a functioning smoker I wont complain. Absolutely not! She spent 5 hours doing partial highlights she hardly talked and ignored me when I would speak id have to repeat myself a few time for her to say something back. She acted as if she hated what she was doing. I mentioned something about her leaving so much hair out for my highlight and she said the toner would make it match… it didn’t at all the toner didnt even stick or spread through my hair bc they spilled and didn’t make more, it got it all over my face they didn't even offer a towel to wipe it off. I asked her to use a detangle brush for my hair instead of a comb because it was pulling too much and she just looked at me then said “okay ig” , She had forgotten many steps and when I mentioned them she just told me to come back. Often times she would just sit there and the girl helping her would have to ask her hey did you do this ? Did you put conditioner in her hair? And she says no then slowly walks to do what she has to do as if shes over it but she was over it from the time she started. I finally got up to complain after the white pieces that were left in my hair and the toner she reapplied that she was only going to “wash” out with a towel. I see her standing outside hitting a wax pen. I was right she was high and she could not function and do her job right being high she half assed my whole hair literally one side only has highlights in the middle of my hair not even going all the way down only one side has highlights going all the way down and thats because another student with experience did that side and I asked if they would come out different they said no. Im very disappointed more due to the unprofessional behavior and attitude. School or not you treat this like your job if this is the field you are looking to go into. That behavior won’t fly in a salon and you will not have clients come back with that kind...
Read moreI’ve been lucky enough to have Rachelle, or Shelly as they call her, work on my facials and even try out a makeup application at the Aveda Institute, and she’s been nothing short of amazing! She’s always so sweet, professional, and accommodating — making sure I’m comfortable and fully informed every step of the way.
My skin has already started to clear up, and the blemishes that were my biggest concern are noticeably improving. She even went the extra mile by providing me with sample products when I had to leave early for an event — such a thoughtful touch that didn’t go unnoticed.
I also want to take a moment to recognize Lilah, who was the reason I was running behind. She gave me one of the most thorough, detailed hair washes I’ve ever experienced. Not only did she wash my hair with care, but she actually sectioned and combed it out as she went — something even seasoned professionals often skip over with hair as full and thick as mine. It was a pleasant surprise to be handled so attentively and skillfully by such new hands, and I truly appreciated the time and effort she put into it.
Both ladies impressed me in their own ways, and I left feeling grateful, refreshed, and so well taken care of. Highly recommend visiting them at the...
