Hello. I came to J&CO on Saturday at 11am with Tony, 3/9/24. Before arriving, the receptionist promised me that Tony would be able to cut my hair if I provided him with picture of what I want. I called twice just to make sure, and the receptionist ensured me that he was good and would be able to do the haircut I wanted. Once there, I provided him with a picture of what I wanted, and to add curtain bangs, but he did something completely different. The end result is traumatizing. It is uneven all over, with no uniform, choppy, botched, and extremely short( 8 inches removed).
During the appointment, I observed that Tony seemed preoccupied with his own ego. During his talk, he boasted about his skills, and how he cut some of the most famous people's hair, saying these are the most expensive scissors that have been used on your hair, and ever will be used. Being so preoccupied, I am not sure if he fully understood my request or respected it. Proving this, during one of our discussions, I expressed to him that I had a modern shag that had finally grown out, and told him that I would never want it again. I later asked if he was doing the haircut I showed him because something was off, and he said he was doing a shag and in-between the one I wanted, proving he didn't respect my request. It was too late to say anything my hair was too short. I also noticed that his hands were shaking, and he almost slurring his words.
This situation is unfair. It was planned for me to be proposed to this year, something so special with the person I love. Now, however, because of this I'm unsure if that's still possible. I wanted to feel beautiful and I do not feel that way right now. Instead, I feel sad, unconfident, and tricked. Please find pictures of my hair now, what it looked like prior to Tony cutting my hair, and the photo of the hair cut I requested. After the haircut disaster, they refunded me the money I paid. They agreed my hair was not what I wanted, and that Tony was wrong for what he did. But here's the kicker - they admitted they couldn't fix my messed-up hair and suggested I wait a year for it to grow back, and a free blow out. Not exactly the fix I wanted.
I emailed and left voicemails, hoping for some kind of solution, but I didn't hear back. I am aware they are closed on Sunday and Monday. Frustrated, I called them on Tuesday at 2:00 pm. When on the phone, the receptionist admitted she saw my email on Tuesday morning but didn't respond, or call me back. The receptionist also stuck to her guns, saying they did their part by giving me back my money, and offering a blow dry. (ha)
I explained that the money does not fix my hair - it was still a hot mess. The situation is unfair and unethical. There is no monetary gain in my mind; all I want is a fair solution to the problem of my hair.
During our conversation, I mentioned that they might be able to assist me with funds to fix my hair elsewhere. I just want to feel confident about myself again, you know? It's not about getting more money; it's about finding a real solution to this haircut nightmare.
I requested the receptionist to give me a call back today and also asked for the owner to reach out, but I haven't heard from either of them. Given the lack of communication, my only recourse is to share my experience through a review, hoping it prevents others from going through a similar ordeal.
P.S- Just a heads up – if you decide to try out this salon, best of luck getting an appointment. The first time I attempted, the receptionist never got back to me. It took me calling again a month later before I was finally able to book anything. Just do yourself a favor and stay far away from...
Read moreI really do not like to write bad reviews bc I know how hard it is in this economy to keep a business open and successful. However my experience today was extremely disappointing. I have never purchased a Groupon before but I came across an offer with Alyssa for full bayalage and haircut. After driving nearly 2 hours to the salon, when I sat in the chair I was told that she could not perform the service- that I would need a major color correction and if she put bleach highlights my hair would break. I have never heard anything like this after highlighting my hair for over 25 years. Although the receptionist was extremely nice, when asking for my refund it went in as Groupon Bucks and not directly to my debit card which was also frustrating. Since I was stuck with the Groupon Bucks I immediately found another deal at Lisa Thomas Salon which was very similar if not better (full head highlights, Oliplax treatment, haircut, glaze, wash and style). Since I was already in the area and wasted 2 hours of my life to be told the service could not be done by Alyssa, Lisa Thomas Salon took me right away and the stylist here told me she could absolutely perform the service, that I did not need a color correction, and my hair would not be damaged or broken from the bleach. The results are amazing and my hair is fresh and healthy. Again the receptionist at J&Co was extremely nice but nothing was offered to me after wasting 2 hours of my life to be told “No.” Included are pictures of my service received at Lisa Thomas Salon where they also offered me a gift package and discount cards for my next visit as they knew how frustrated I was with my experience at your salon. As you can see- hair is healthy, shiny, and the color and cut came out beyond my expectations. I was also provided with purple shampoo free of charge to keep the color fresh. Ironically, the salon that declined my service offered nothing while Lisa Thomas Salon went above and beyond knowing how frustrated I was. If Alyssa was nervous to do the color I would have gladly made an appointment with another stylist without using the Groupon but not even that...
Read moreThis was my 3rd time here and sadly I don't think I'll be back. The end result was okay but the things that occurred during the process don't sit right with me.
(1), The first few times I came in for a partial highlight, I've come with freshly washed and brushed hair to make it easier. I have loose, long curly hair (3A curls) so I was being courteous by doing this even though I shouldn't have to. One time I remember my stylist asking me if I had washed my hair prior to the appointment and she told me that I don't have to do that, and she prefers it when people come in with "dirty" hair. So this time, I came in with my hair that hasn't been washed for a few days and had leave-in conditioner in it. I asked if that would be a problem, and she said no. For the next hour, the stylist proceeded to majorly struggle to separate my hair into pieces for the highlights, and would make comments asking if I had gel in my hair, which I didn't. I felt really embarrassed by this. The whole time I felt like the stylist was super annoyed at having to deal with my hair since she didn't really talk to me as she usually does. I ended up going home and having to re-brush my hair myself as there were still knots, and a lot of my hair was torn and falling out from that initial rough separating of the hair.
(2), when I was explaining what I wanted and didn't want by showing old reference pictures, she seemed apprehensive and used hair terminology that I don't understand and when I asked for clarification, she repeated the same thing. I was ultimately confused and worried for the outcome of my hair.
TLDR: I don't think this salon, or maybe just this stylist, knows how to deal with hair textures that aren't straight. This stylist also wasn't patient with me at all, which I expect to receive if I'm going to be paying $150 for that service. (Which I've only paid $125 here in the past). I don't recommend coming here if you have curly hair
Also, if someone from the salon is reading this and decides to look my name up in the system, I have it under a different first name so search...
