I bought and received living room dining room and bedroom furniture from Creative Furniture in Paramus last year - 2022. It took me a little while to post this because I didn't want to post with raw emotions and I was preoccupied (see below).
First, the positives: their furniture is gorgeous and very well made. Their delivery service was customer friendly and convenient. And I'm getting lots of compliments on all the pieces in my home.
Why I wouldn't recommend them: 1.) There were never more than 2 sales people in the store at a time -- and usually only 1 pers9n -- so I waited a LOT each time I went in and felt rushed in most interactions when I did have their time. There was a lot of glad-handing and good natured banter but never seemed to be enough time to ask questions and then think without then having to wait another 20 min to talk with your salesperson again - which is important when you're talking about spending those prices. 2.) They require large deposit or full payment upfront. 3.) Their return policy stated that changes could be made prior to delivery, and the manager there restated that policy when I went in person to ask about making changes to my order - "As long as the items haven't been delivered, you can make any changes you want." So when I lost my job and called to ask about canceling my order, I was disturbed and confused when they told me I could either cancel and receive a credit for 80% of the price or take delivery of the order...but couldn't cancel the order. So upon losing my income, my options were to not get the furniture AND lose 20% of my money OR get the furniture. Since they already had my money, I was at a disadvantage. I asked for options but got nothing MEANINGFUL. If I could have actually had a conversation with anybody that wasn't contentious, perhaps they might have thought about offering me some options to keep me as a customer. I should have filed a NJ consumer complaint and probably will still because their policy is stated right on the invoice, but I was a little busy at the time!
The worst part was that it took WEEKS - more than 1.5 months - to get the matter resolved because no one would call me back or answer my questions when I reached them. Either the manager needed to answer my question but wasn't there, or the owner needed to be consulted, or the same questions were asked repeatedly over multiple calls weeks apart. Emails were not answered any better. It just reeked of avoidance and unethical if not improper consumer treatment, especially given the broader economic circumstances. What's so sad is that I was told the manager was sick, and so I waited longer than I normally would have between calls and emails, and when I did contact them again (because he NEVER called back when he said he would), I would ask him how he was doing and express concern. It seemed like a practiced routine of avoidance. (Not once was there any acknowledgement of my situation, so why I felt the need to care, I don't know.)
The irony of the situation is that if they had handled my situation completely differently, not only would I have EVENTUALLY taken delivery of the original order and felt fine about it, but I would likely be buying my furniture from them for the next several decades because I'd feel loyal to a company that treated me right. I would also certainly be referring other people to them. Instead, I'm writing a review suggesting people shop elsewhere and filing a consumer complaint. What truly stood out to me was how supportive he was even after my purchase. I started second-guessing myself about the shape of the furniture and went back thinking I might have to exchange it. Jimmy didnāt make me feel bad or like I was an inconvenience. Instead, he patiently walked me through my options again and reassured me until I felt confident. In the end, I realized the set I originally chose was perfect for meāand now I couldnāt be happier with it. Iām so thankful Jimmy was there for me through the entire process.
And beyond the incredible service, I have to say that Creative Furnitures has the most delicate, modern, and beautifully designed furniture with amazing quality. Every piece feels unique and special, which made the whole experience even more exciting.
