REBATE SYSTEM FAILURE Today my computer calendar reminded me that today, Oct. 20, 2016 was the last day of my 8 week waiting period for the $35.50 rebate that I submitted back in August. I had bought a power washer, chalk paint, painting equipment all for a couple of long weekend projects. For the first time, I decided to try their rebate process - which anyone that has been in their store has seen the rebate slip section of CS take up about 25+ feet of countertop space and front wall of the myriad rebates that they offer. I spoke to customer service rep behind the counter and she assured me that all I needed to do was send in the receipt and all was fine. Just put them all together and it's like magic - you'll get a rebate, typically before the 8 weeks. It's great process." Magic?? Well I suppose so, if you like disappearing acts. Long story longer...I called Adam, the operations manager, who was very "nice" about listening to my plight. He quite calmly explained that it was out of his hands and I'd need to contact Rebates International. I explained that if it took longer than the next 15 minutes, it was not worth the $35.50 in my world - he was asking me to look things up (hey, I'm a busy person - and looking things up can take 15-30 minutes or longer - and would eat up a lunch hour. Which I personally like to eat during that time - not research info that the store should have (are we not in an age of technology?) Anywho... the onus is on me even though I've followed the process outlined. I did enter my name in Rebates International to find out that my name is not even in the system - and I can assure you that it is not a difficult task to write an address on an envelop - we all do it. So I offered Adam the chance to keep me as a Pekin local shopper. I work in Peoria and it makes it much easier for me to shop there, but I try very hard to keep the majority of my shopping in Pekin. Nothing was offered to keep me as a customer. At this point an apology would have sufficed, but all I was offered was to come in (at least a half hour drive at this point, and I could personally research my transaction and then start the process of trying to figure out what happened to $35. Well, as that is not an acceptable use of my time, I decided to write a review so that anyone that values their time realizes that if you are in a similar boat as myself when making a purchase at Menard's, I recommend not taking the rebate price into consideration because it simply is not fail safe that the rebate will be returned to you. So, for this Pekin shopper that feels that she has calmly and thoroughly given Menard's every chance to back up their customer service slogan. A slogan that at the beginning of each of their calls states "Menard's.. we are dedicated to service and quality." Well, this shopper does not agree with that and nor should you. There is no dedication here, no customer service satisfaction - no customer recovery program in place. A disappointing experience. In a time when businesses are trying to increase profit margins, customer service is a proven way to strengthen company branding and customer loyalty. It is not happening here - so I will not be returning. Fortunately, for me as the consumer, there are other brick and mortars that use an everyday value price or in store awesome service to entice me to shop there - and hey - it's not always about the cheapest price - it's about where you want to return to keep shopping because you think the store values their customers. Again - I do not feel valued at Menard's - I will not return. I would suggest to you to stand your ground if you are in the same un-customer service receiving end such as myself. Ace Hardware...You've got my never-ending loyalty - never leaving you again! Sorry - I've learned my lesson, thankfully it only...

But during the remodel of my current home I haven’t had great luck with employees from 2 different departments in the last month. The first one was when I was trying to purchase carpet. I asked the sales man to show me where carpet samples from a particular company were located, as I had seen that company online. He looks in the computer and proceeds to tell me that they don’t have that brand of carpet samples in store to look at and that it has to be special ordered, and that I was only able to see the color choices on the computer. He went on to help someone else. I went down another row, and right there were the carpet samples from the company that he said they didn’t have in store. I politely went up to him and said that he might want to know that they did have those samples in store for future reference and I pointed them out to him. He then said, “I know” and walked away. Long story short, I went to Home Depot and they were more than happy to take the time to help me find the right carpet and color I was looking for, so I purchased it there. Then I went back to Menards to buy a tub shower combo. I needed a smaller size than the standard 60” tub combo. Online I found one that I liked that said it came from 54” to 60”. I needed 56”. I tried to get the girl at the desk to order me a 56”. She told me I could only get it in 54 or 60. But the add said 54”TO 60” indicating that it included all the sizes in between. She said no. So I said is there any way I can just custom order what I need, she asked another guy there and he said No. I couldn’t custom order a tub shower combo to the size I needed. I find this VERY hard to believe. Now, I would more than appreciate it if someone told me they didn’t know the answer to my question. But to just lie and say they don’t or can’t makes me pretty aggravated. Soooo tomorrow I will take my business right back to Home Depot and see if anyone there wishes to help me buy a tub shower combo in the size I need. However, I would like to mention that the girls in the paint department are always friendly and helpful, and my poor rating does not include...
Read moreI used to prefer this Menards to any other home improvement store in the area. I came in one night recently, I needed a 2.50 bottle of cleaner for my sons school supply list, they are literally the only store that had them. So after spending 45 minutes in the store, trying to find this product, they guy that helped us went to the backroom where the system said they have 9 that came in on a truck this morning at 7a.m. well after this guy "goes to look" he comes back 25 minutes later and tells me that they found them but they can't get them out tonight. Keep in mind that its still 4 hours before they close. But I can come back at 9 a.m. and they will be on the shelf....like are you really that lazy you can't grab one bottle out of one box. Well, thats cool I guess I will just take my business to another store from now on, I guess i will be too lazy to drive 20 minutes outta my way to shop at your store instead of the lowes 5 minutes from my house. Thats ok I'm still going to get my products needed and you will lose at least one customer. Absolutely...
