My fiancé and I just passed through on our way around the lake at about 7:30AM and felt like we were a huge inconvenience to the guy who took our order. There were maybe 5 other people in the coffee shop who were already seated and enjoying their coffee or waiting on food, and nothing about the atmosphere suggested we should be rushed through the ordering process as all patrons seemed content. We walked in intending to sit for a bit and enjoy a quiet morning, but I barely had my coffee order out of my mouth before Kaleb (according to the receipt) quickly interrupted me asking “anything else?” My partner ordered his coffee and again, “anything else?” I said, yes, we wanted two breakfast sandwiches, and before I could tell him which ones (there was no menu at the counter, and the rushed interaction caught us off guard so we had to run over to the wall to look at the menu again to remember what we intended on ordering), he asked us “here or to go?” I told him which sandwiches and ordered everything to go.
No other attempt to interact with us was made, we were never offered any dairy alternatives or basic drink customization options beyond how many shots of espresso, no “thank you” when we paid nor “you’re welcome” when we expressed our gratitude for taking our order…even the woman who made our sandwiches, which were delicious, was able to interact with us cheerfully. All in all, the rushed ordering and lack of kindness right up front was very off putting. The food and coffee were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed them on the road, but it would have been nice to be shown some basic hospitality on an otherwise beautiful morning.
ETA: We had the dirty Irishman and a mocha, both very tasty and the perfect temperature, and a ham and cheese and sausage and cheese sandwich, again, both fresh and delicious! I do understand our world is crazier than ever right now and hope it was just an off morning, as we’d love to return, I’ll just ask for more time if we feel that rushed again in the future. Thanks for providing a quick...

This place was like the part of a Dr. Suess book that goes terribly wrong.
The place is pretty much self-serve. You order, they call your name, and if you are eating, you take your plates up when finished. This is neither bad nor good, it's just the lay of the land.
It looks and feels like a coffee house, and on that note, their breakfast blend was alright, but that was not what left an impression on me. We came mainly for breakfast and that is my focus here
If scrambled eggs are put in a container to keep warm, they basically continue to cook. This will have a negative affect on texture and taste. Eventually, they will turn green (powered eggs do stay yellow, btw), and in some cases, form a crust like outer casing. That was the eggs we were served.
I might have skipped writing a review if that were it, but there was more in store.
I never thought in a million years that I would have to defend a vegetarian, but here we are. A piece of ham made its way into the veggie breakfast burrito one of our party was eating. That person is a vegetarian. The ham was about 1" by 1", and it was only in one half of the burrito that was cut in half before being served. The excuse given by the cooks was that they got it confused with the denver bowl that another one of our party had ordered. So they intended on only putting one piece of ham in the burrito? made no sense. They offered a replacement.
Luckily, this wasn't some violation of a religious restriction, or worse, an allergy. It does display a lack of attention to detail or maybe just an 'I don't care attitude'.
I think I'll sooner recommend dining at the cat in the hat's litter box than...
Read moreI visit Petoskey often and have always wanted to visit this place since I love the outside decor. The inside is just as interesting and I really enjoyed looking all around. However, I was confused by the ordering process initially. Maybe some signs around (on the tables maybe?) or a large sign at the entrance that gets your attention (maybe there was one and my friends and I missed it) and explains the whole process will be nice. When we went inside, we couldn't even tell if we needed to seat ourselves or not. Ordering was easy enough but staring at the menu on the wall to figure out wasn't the most convenient way of choosing what I wanted since I need to be careful with ingredients. These are all minor issues though. If the food had been good enough for the price, these wouldn't have mattered. I was very disappointed with my avocado toast. There was hardly any avocado on the bread to make it an avocado toast (see pics). It tasted good enough and the price was pretty decent, but I expect a good amount of stuff besides bread on a toast. If I knew it was going to be that little amount of food, I would've ordered a full order of pancakes as an add on. That said, I also got a single order pancake which tasted good but was a bit smaller than I expected for the $5.25 charge for the side pancake. I ended up getting hungry three hours after my lunch. My three friends were happy with their orders though (see pics) and liked what they got and thought the meals were big enough. Maybe the specific items that I ordered are small...
