If you like a modernized apartment with an amazing rooftop and very friendly and helpful management, this is the place to be!
Goldtex was a luxurious experience that was so comfortable to live in that I regret having to move out every day. (Got a new job and had to move outside the city.)
My husband and I had a 1 bedroom + 1 bathroom that has a mini loft, which our cats loved to go up to for the height. It was a gorgeous set up with white countertops, hardwood floors, cabinets that quietly closed, high ceilings and windows, electronically controlled blinds, and a pull-up set of stairs that led to the loft. The bathroom is so pretty! It’s all white countertops and cabinets. The shower has glass-like walls and door. The showerhead is like a jacuzzi style, and the water temperature adjusts easily and quickly.
Utilities was very reasonable and I like that they use green energy for everything! Rarely did our utilities (electric [no gas at Goldtex] + water/sewer/trash) ever go above $200, and that was when we kept the AC or heat on every single minute for the entire month. When we didn’t keep our AC or heat on all the time, our bill was regularly 10-30 minutes trying to find a street spot.
On the ground floor, there’s 24/7 concierge service and they’re always so nice! They help with getting delivery packages.
Only other complaint is that the refrigerator and freezer are quite small, which made it tough to store a bunch of food. Thankfully, you’re right by Chinatown so it was very easy to stop by the Asian grocery store and pick up fresh food or go to one of the yummy restaurants.
Because of COVID, they gave us 2 months free. And then when it came to renewing the lease, the rent barely increased, which was much appreciated and another reason why I wish we could have stayed.
Inflation and rent increases across the country have now made affording housing much more challenging. Goldtex is definitely not cheap. But the quality you get is superb. I miss it everyday and strongly...
Read moreGoldtex is outstanding building, but just like most apartment complexes, it’s far from perfect. It’s like buying a brand new car with a ton of recalls on it, it’s breaking down every other week, same thing with this building, every other week something will break on you. Overall it’s a very modern place to live, but the amount of problems you’ll run into cannot match it.
From the day I moved in, there was nothing but problems with the apartment, many things were broken and never fixed. Submitted a check sheet with management regarding the issues, lost the sheet and never had anyone check on the problems. From the day I moved in, the towel rack in the bathroom was on it’s last leg until it broke recently, the shower door leaked ungodly across the whole bathroom floor, there’s openly exposed wires in the one closet, some of the electric outlets don’t work properly, old AC air filters left under the unit, the refrigerator didn’t stay cold and the window didn’t close properly. Had to remind management many times about all the issues, and still till this day more than halfway through my lease, still haven’t had everything fixed. So if you loved frustration and fighting, this is definitely the right place for you!
The amazing 14 feet ceilings are amazing, until your fire alarm starts beeping because the battery is dying, usually happens late night or on the days no ones around to fix it for you. Had to replace both batteries on my own, attempting to parkour on furniture to change it myself.
The AC unit tends to break down frequently as well. The first time I had it happen, I waited until the next day in the late afternoon to go talk to management about it. Only to find the repairman near the office, ask him about it and he responds, “I know, I’ll be right up to fix it”. Apparently it was multiple units, not just my apartment, and on top of that they knew it was not working and took their time to fix it.
Hope you get along with your neighbors well, because the walls are paper thin, you can easily near next door making breakfast in the morning time if you’re still trying to sleep in during the day. Prepare for the constant fire alarms going off as well. Whether it’s a drill or the real deal, it’s bound to go off at least once a month at a minimum.
Of course there's positive things about the building everyone mentions, like the rooftop and beautiful kitchens, etc. But dealing with all this problems first hand, it makes it very easy to look past all the good aspects.
Only reason moving into this building was to be a lot closer to work and to have my peace and quiet, but so far I’ve had the complete opposite of that. Keep looking for a different and more established apartment complex, this one definitely needs a few more years to get their...
Read moreStarting with I LOVE my apartment. Everything is brand new. Kitchen cabinets, gorgeous glass stove, great washer and dryer right in the unit, hardwood floors, huge windows with automatic blinds.
As a woman I can't give a separate paragraph for BATHROOM! You get full set of hydromassage shower, as the one you can use in the SPA. Water is coming from 6 different directions, plus you get a huge bath tub, shaped for your comfort, with back and arm pads. And you have lots of space for all of your shampoo and gel bottles. Moder galss door is a big plus, It doesn't leack anywhere and it's very easly to clean, no more shower curtnains what always pain in the ** to wash. My showers got longer, but who wouldn't want to spend some extra time in the HEAVEN.
As a person who has a lot of clothes and shoes, I say: " there is nothing better as a full extra room, what you can use as a closet. In every apartment there is a loft, two clothing racks, mirrow and couple shoe shelfs made me a perfect clothing closet-room. Plus you have a lot of storage in the apartment as well.
The only reason I gave my apartment 4 stars, is the heat. Because of a very high ceiling (loft), it gets kind of chilly in the apartment, even when I have heat on 75-76. I don't want to put it higher, because I'm afraid of huge electic bill. I didn't get my first bill yet, so I'll give you an update on that next later. Also apartment's walls are pretty thin, so if you live with someone, it can be a bit of an issue, but we didn't have any problems so far.
If you are looking for place to live-Goldtex is a place to be. You are 5 minutes cab ride from all bars and restaurants in central city, few minutes walk from Reading terminal market. There is super cheap lunch/breakfast place next door.
Modern gym, rooftop pool, a little small, but has incredible view right on central city. Prices are a little higher, but after you look through everything, what Philly has to offer, beleive me, couple hundred dollars will make a huge...
