I love wood street pizza. I say this having two pizzerias within a block of my place and Pizzeria Vetri's 5 min away.
Dean is awesome. They were one of my staples through the pandemic, which was when I started ordering from them. I appreciate the lengths they went to to keep everyone safe.
Some of the prices are a bit too high especially when you only order as take out. However, the quality of their ingredients is unquestionable. I love their pepper hash. I wish they sold it by the jar like Haitian Pikliz! It's a great addition on anything.
I have not loved everything that I have ordered. That is, however, a matter of personal taste in this case. I love that they experiment with dishes via their specials!!! My go to staples are however:
HOAGIE: The BEST I have ever tasted. While I respect the history of the hoagie, I am not a fan of the construction of the sandwich which makes it sloppy to eat thus defeating the purpose of it being a handheld food. However, theirs changed my mind.
MEATBALL PARM: Quality meatball. I order the bread on the side when I am not able to eat it right away, so that it doesn't get soggy during the drive home. It also makes it easier to reheat when necessary.
GRANDMA PIZZA: I love that it is not overly garlicky as others are.
MEATBALL PIZZA: Great combo of ingredients. I would still order some marinara on the side.
PEPPER HASH: This a condiment you never knew you needed in your life!!
I have never had pizza delivered. I always drive the 10 min to pick up so I can't speak on that. I do respect that they offer their own delivery to offset the issues with the...
Read moreThe Pizza (and other food) is WAY too expensive for what it is. It's okay pizza, but it's definitely not gourmet. Every dish should be at least $2-3 cheaper. You're paying Vetri Pizza prices for neighborhood New York Pizza shop-quality pizza. Again--it's not bad; I just don't want to pay $5 or $6 just for a slice. Go to any other walk-in counter service pizza joint in the city and get even a specialty slice for close to half that.
As for the pizza itself, the sauce isn't noticeable or tasty in and of itself and there's not much toppings, especially meats--they really skimp on meats. Actually, the same goes for their cheesesteaks--not much meat and a lot of bread (good cheese, though). Their white pizza also had barely any white sauce.
I write this as someone whose been there between 5 and 10 times, getting something different most times. My company has also ordered there food in bulk for meetings, so I've been able to try many of their menu items. For what this shop is TRYING to be (gourmet Philly pizza), it's middling and a bit meh. For what this shop ACTUALLY IS (counter service local pizza joint), it's really good. If only they realized it and priced accordingly.
The staff seem like really great people there, and the atmosphere is sparse but good. I wish I could go there more often. I work nearby and this would be really convenient. But the pricing and lack of substance on the pizzas has made me have to stop going...
Read moreI gave this place two tries in two days and both were complete fails. The first day of ordered mozzarella sticks and a ceasar salad which totalled $16 bucks.. the salad was about the size of a full salad at cosi with a half full ketchup packet size of ceasar dressing. They top their salad with sardines which is a surprise no one mentioned. They offered no suggestions, had no welcoming smiles on their face when walking through the door. ---today I was going to settle for another order of their over priced mozzarella sticks but there was an hour wait on that, I'm guessing they had to wait for someone to come back from a quick run to Murray's. So with only 30 minutes for lunch-- he suggested their stuffed mushrooms ( which I passed on) and settled for the onions rings. 20 mins in, I'm wondering why it's taking so long for onion rings and out comes the mushrooms---with no time to reorder I take THEIR mistake and ended up starving any way... the "stuffed mushrooms" we're nothing but breadcrumb...as soon as you picked one up the mushroom it self fell to the tray and all you got were a mouthful of breadcrumbs. I tried one and gave the rest away. Smh I'd be surprised if this place lasts long if this is their only surprise. Geesh....
