Proper Gentleman — Local services in Philadelphia

I have been going to this spot since it opened, and it's a great experience! On my last trip it got even better and I realized I owed them a 5-star review. I started here because I followed my barber, Rachel, from the previous haircut spot that closed down (called American Male). She does great work, and I've requested Rachel exclusively for years now. The current I'm Sergio location downtown has continued to improve in big and small ways since it opened. There were small improvements like adding cupholders to the stations, so you'd have somewhere to put your drink during your cut. Recently, they made a larger improvement of remodeling the reception desk into more of a bar design, AND they took the opportunity to really upgrade their beer offerings. YES, a big plus for me is that you get a "free" beer before/during your cut! With the addition of Victory IPA (on draft) and Golden Monkey, they finally have some exciting beer to offer. Yay! The biggest wildcard is the shampoo and head massage experience, which can vary based on who is running that (it's a separate person from the person who cuts your hair). That experience can range from just plain pleasant and quick, to absolutely glorious if you get so lucky as to have someone who will do a full head massage while you have a hot towel on your face and conditioner soaking into your hair. Appointments are ALWAYS right on time, I doubt I've ever had to wait more than 5 mins at most and if I do it's with a beer so I'm happy for the time. They do an optional (but free) straight-edge razor shave of your neck at the end, which is both very professional and a great shave. It can feel a tad pricey for me to go here, but for what you get (beer, shampoo, head massage, great haircut, choice of product in hair, straight razor neck shave) it's very good value and I never ever have to work about...

I have been going to this hair Salon twice now and both experiences I had a good time and the first time Minh my stylist took care of me by pre washing and cutting my hair and spending a great deal of time cutting my hair and when I asked about a paste for beard she recommended a certain one so I was treated very respectfully by her and she is a very nice stylist to talk to also they give you a free beverage and a pre wash with a hot towel to dry your face off with and the second time I had Francesca wash my hair and dry it off with a hot towel and Minh took very good care of my haircut and spend a great deal of time cutting my beard and I definetly like going down there to Center City Philadelphia, PA but I like how they treat you from day one and treat you and make you feel like a real man and who couldn't ask for more? I also getting other guys asking me how to do I get my beard to grow like that and I got a two compliments from a really pretty SEPTA bus driver on how good my beard looks after my friend who was a patient at Fox Chase Cancer Center and another time with a male SEPTA bus driver who said my beard looked good and that he liked it so thanks to Minh this is all possible and recently I had another male passenger on a SEPTA bus how do I grow my beard like that and I referred him to Minh at I'm Sergio downtown so hopefully she gets more business and...

HORRIBLE Front desk. Super rude and doesn’t know how to talk. Would never ever visit here again.

Since the owner replied with more lies here's what happened:

My ETA was 5:08, and I called at 5:05 that am running a bit late for the appointment. The receptionist told me: "Our policy is 10mins after that please we won't entertain you". I said can I please get a grace period of 1-2minutes. She rudely told me we can't give you a second more. Due to traffic my ETA became 5:11, I called again at 5:08, that I am right across the street and I'll arrive at 5:11 that is 1 minute past their "DEADLINE". She said we can't take you we are full.

While I understand policy there is a human element to it. She was super rude the way she spoke. She could have nicely said that so sorry we won't be able to make it and I would have been fine. I never bullied anyone I just chose not to engage with her since she was already quite attacking.

This place doesn't give you 1 minute grace period and are super rude about it! And to the owner your email reply was completely different to this so am guessing either you are a liar or...
