Yeah sure they've got great deals on select fresh vegetables every week. Prices on other things like cheese, milk, eggs and milk are a little pricey. Good luck if you were hoping to run in run out real quick. Two, maybe three cashier's when people are going home to make dinner, busiest time of day and they've got NO back up help. Maybe, maybe you'll get a manager on a registered now and then. Seems to me and I was told by a Basha's employee if you're not Mexican or at least bi-lingual, Spanish being one of those languages, don't bother applying. I've been in the grocery/retail business since 1989, there's a lot that could be changed at Food City to make it more shoppable and increase there bottom line. But I'm just a stupid female that only speaks enough Spanish to get by. Must be Mexican, have a disability, be an older woman and speak a bit of Spanish in order to get a job here. I can be a Walmart department manager but I'm not qualified to be a courtesy clerk...
Read moreThis is a good place to find some items that are hard to find elsewhere. I especially like the bulk corn tortilla chips and the chorizo here. Excellent selection of major Mexican beer brands. Produce can be hit or miss, with great prices for items that are in season and not-so-great prices for the rest. Few organics. Weekday mornings are a good time to shop here; they open at 6 am, so I often come before work, especially if I don't want to wait in line at the meat counter. Avoid shopping here the first two-to-three days of the month when the crowds can be overwhelming. It's rare, but occasionally you'll find an employee who doesn't speak any English; if you don't speak any Spanish, they'll always find someone else to help you. The self-checkout is a modest improvement over the chronically understaffed checkout lines, but they're clearly still working out some of the bugs in the system. If you're buying alcohol, you're sometimes better off...
Read moreThis Food City is like, the mother of all the other ones; it's HUGE inside & has lots of yummy noms, like...CANDY!!!
That's the main reason I shop here, is for the candy....oh, & ..... wink wink the FLAAAAAAAAAN! While here last, I came across some blue Fanta, in a 2 litre, so that was cool.
Some items are NOT a good deal here, but mostly everything else, is! The staff & cashiers are very very nice, sweet, & welcoming. They have money services & international stuff - money & phone cards. Like all grocery stores, they have fresh foods like produce & meat, but ya gotta know what you're buying & be careful for freshness, but good prices.
Food City is owned by Bashas. The store is very clean - both inside & out, w/ a great big parking lot, on the corner of 32nd Street & Greenway; there are other shops in the strip too, plus eateries, but I wasn't paying attention to...
