I had a vintage Magnavox Console that I wanted to get repaired as it developed a loud hum that made the using experience not very pleasant. I usually like doing the work myself as I am mechanical and electronically inclined but this time I decided to leave it to the experts as I wanted this console to be in great shape and back to working condition. I took my vintage tube amplifier along with the record changer. Once inspected I was told by Guy and Brian that they needed the radio tuner to be able to complete the system and be able to verify that it was in working condition. After shipping the radio tuner to them (this since I live out of town ), they proceeded to inspect it and work on it. A month and a couple of weeks later, after several follow ups they finally said my record changer had a bad motor and was not salvageable, then proceeded to tell me the amp and tuner were repaired and recapped. Once I got home and put it together, the hum was still there. I was very disappointed as I talked and mentioned that to them and they said they did work on it only to find out they added 1 single capacitor to the amp while it was noticeable that a couple of them were already leaking and as well needed replacement. I tested the capacitors without the speakers ( as they mentioned they wouldn't really know that there was a hum since they didn't have the speakers, and the speakers were not taken since like some other clients have mentioned, they dont have space to take bigger equipment in) Indeed several Capacitors were almost not working. I had to put hands on and ordered all the schematics and materials and I actually had to change the capacitors myself on the tuner and the amp and as well fixed the record changer which only had the motor base support too tight that it was creating too much friction and making the motor hot and not allowing the Record Changer to turn at the right 33.5 RPMs. After doing all this work, I got the whole console back to working condition and sounding amazing. Very disappointed that took time and money for them to not address the issue, go around the topic and to send me home 4 hrs away with the items almost the same way they came in. I have attached the pictures of the work I had to do myself, and the videos are the before and after the Hum I had to fix.
I understand people are busy, but like other clients have said, we can take some time before we bring stuff in so you guys don't have to take in all at once, but after dropping close to $350 on gas, shipping and paying your business only to come home with the same issue, of course one gets upset.
And Yes, I did take it to their shop, and talk back and forth with Brian and Guy by phone and by...
Read moreI checked the ratings for this company before I brought my Technics amplifier in to be repaired. After a brief conversation with whomever answered the phone, I brought my Technics amplifier in to be repaired. I called a few days later, and they said they had no record of it coming in. I said I paid the $30, so I have a receipt I bought it. He said sorry, as if that was it , and goodbye. I became upset, and obviously he did not think that it was appropriate that I was upset that he lost my property, so he hung up on me. After that another gentleman called, and said he would look for it. They found it and would work on it that day. My problem with the tuner/amplifier was I had to giggle the volume button a couple times to get it to come on - not all the time, but it was progressive. Indicated there was a short, I would assume. After they got done working on, which he said was not repairable as too many issues with the main board, and was more interested in selling me a stereo that was consigned to his shop, he said it had been dropped and he just could not fix it. It was dropped 23 years ago (I assume by movers during my move here), which I noticed 23 years ago, and has worked since. He put it back together badly. It was rattling when I picked it up, and I said nothing, because the one gentleman was not approachable. I got it home, plugged it back in, and now it does not work at all, the inputs in the back are really loose and coming out, and it stated "overload" when I hooked it back up. He made a mess of things. So I paid $30 to have them completely ruin my amplifier. I am...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars, I would. I dropped off my boombox that wasn't reading discs. I paid a $30 deposit and was given a ticket with a number. Please know that means nothing to this business. They said they would inspect my unit and call but that it could take 3 weeks because they were busy. They said if they didn't call, for me to call. I called, and they had no knowledge of my boombox. The owner was out of town and no one knew of my stereo. Emails ensued, they couldn't find my stereo, they said they never remembered having one and then said it was given to someone else! I was livid. Then after about 30 emails and days of stress and searching photos on the internet of my boombox they offered me a knockoff replacement but then they found my stereo and proceeded to tell me it would be an additional $130 to fix my stereo that needed a new laser to read the discs. After "losing" my stereo and then finding it, I said no thanks and picked up my stereo. They refunded my $30 deposit. I went to a local TV repair shop in Glendale called Manny's TV and Electronics repair. He fixed my stereo in less than a week, and it was $25, over 130 less than Sound Guy and great customer service. Bottom line, The Sound Guy is unreliable and unprofessional, telling a customer they lost their item and gave it to someone else, and never calling after diagnosing my stereos problem. Feel free to read...
