The Evergreen Cafe in Point Breeze, Pittsburgh has some of my favorite Mexican food! They share a space with Tasty Taquitos and it’s the best spot for an ice cold beer with locals and a great meal! #mexicanfood #pittsburgh #divebar #pennsylvania #yinzer

A Pittsburgh staple! The perfect dive bar. Phil is super kind and has a great sense of humor for keeping the parking thing going for 50 years- the determination is admirable. So hilarious how annoyed people get over a parking spot. This bar has lots of character. It’s a true dive. Smoke machine for cigarettes, skill games, cash only, don’t expect fancy $15 cocktails, they have great cold beers on draft- all the classics, the glass is always ice cold which makes all the difference. The food is AMAZING. Try the tacos & the quesadilla!! I was skeptical at first, but found that the food is fantastic. Honestly, some of my favorite Mexican food in the city, and for a reasonable price. Give this place a try. Yinz won’t regret it!

Had passed this place a few times and it had been closed. Was surprised to see it open on Boxing Day. Was even more surprised by the excellent Mexican food, the best I’d had in PGH and maybe better than most places I’d been in NYC. The owner Phil was genial and welcomed a regular in and talked as I ate at the bar. Beer was cheap and looked good but I was recovering from a cold so I skipped it. Given the quality of the other Mexican food I’d eaten in PGH, I’d say going to this place is a no brainer. They do take out and eat in but no Seamless. The Tinga was tender and flavorful and so was the cotija and house made hot sauce. V fun to discover this hidden gem.

Great neighborhood bar and wonderful well-priced food. Sadly, such places are rarer and rarer these days. If you have something like the Evergreen in your neighborhood, count your blessings. And if you don't, it's worth the trip. You won't find QR code menus that encourage you to stare into your device while you're out "socializing." Instead, you'll find a diversity of friendly faces and all the warmth of human society pressed shoulder to shoulder around the bar.

You'll notice if you read a few of the reviews here, that the only negative reviews are from complainypants whiners who are obsessed with the parking issue. What's so hard about looking or thinking ahead and merging to the left lane? If you think that a legally parked inert vehicle can cause an accident, you really shouldn't be driving.

And now there's a lot of unmerited glee circulating since No Parking signs have been posted this past week along this stretch of Penn Ave. For those of us living here in the neighborhood who need to cross the street to enjoy the park or walk our kids to school, we applaud anything that helps slow traffic on the deadly speedway that has become Penn Ave. Shout out to all the new No Turn or Red signs that have also recently arrived.

Do yourself a favor. Instead of hating on this beloved neighborhood institution, now that the parking out front won't be a "hazard" to distracted sloppy drivers, pop inside and give it a try. Good...

mixed crowd, all ages and races, staff ,owner , and patrons were all very nice. It was a cool spot to grab a cold one after work. I came alone and felt very comfortable and accepted , kinda like the old school cheers show 😁They sell home made amazingly fresh authentic Mexican pork tacos as well as wings etc. fries were very Good too! I moved back to the Burgh from Dallas Texas and now CAN NOT live without good Mexican food , as a bread pittsburgher it was a leap (were used to our hoagies and wings and dont love change) but I highly suggest switching it up and going south of the boarder on the menu...after all if you've ever been drunk on pure aquave nectar tequila then you know they know how to throw down good food as well . It's like a symphony in your mouth, especially after a cold corona or two !!!...

I recently took my family of 4 here, my two sons (age 4 and 7) got fatal food poisoning from the salad and when I took them to the bathroom I ran into a rat the size of my shoe wearing a chef outfit, he introduced himself as Remy, as he skittered back into the kitchen. When I informed the manager about this he simply shouted back at me “I CAN PARK WHEREVER I WANT.” I was unsure what he meant as I was just looking for a place to feed my family on a Saturday afternoon. My husband was severely injured as well when we left the restaurant, he was hit by a vehicle attempting to merge around an ugly gold minivan with a yellow flag on it(?). Anyway I’m typing this from the ER, hoping that my poor sons will survive this incident and my poor husband will get to...
