I was disappointed in the service I got when I went in there. Most of the employees were very helpful and polite. The blonde female who helped me on the other hand really wasn't. She gave me a low ball offer for my 20 movies and tv series. Then after a low ball offer she was asking what I wanted. I asked for a modest price that I knew they could still make money off of and I still got a reply explaining that they already had duplicate copies of the dvd's in stock and she couldn't give that. Let's break this down for a minute. I gave 20 movies, she offered $10 or $13 in store credit. I asked for $20 which was low enough and fair in my opinion. After that I get an excuse of overstock. Why even ask then? After that, I said the on demand and internet that was keeping those dvds on the shelves. She said she just worked at the store and didn't really want to hear what I had to say and rushed me out of there. I was annoyed and just disappointed in the lack of service I got. My opinion is don't make a customer have the impression that you own the store and care about them if you really don't. I would've fired her on the spot for being unprofessional like that. But the reality is, people just don't care and it's sad. I didn't have any intentions of selling there in the first place and won't ever go there again. Avoid the Sq. Hill location, it's not worth the trouble...
Read moreThe Exchange is a Pittsburgh treasure. Whether you collect toys, games, movies, or vinyl there will be something to tickle your fancy here. I most often frequent the Squirrel Hill location on Forbes Ave, but the cool thing about The Exchange is that there is one location in most Pittsburgh borroughs, and I think some outside of Pittsburgh as well. For this reason the collection is even more massive than it seems when you walk in.
It seems like the entire inventory is catalogued so if you're looking for something specific the staff is more than willing to do a quick search. More than once I've had a specific documentary in mind and they were able to reserve a copy from another location for my convenience. That's what I call extra effort!! This place is awesome during the holiday season because like I said, there's something for everyone. An ideal place to shop for Secret Santa gifts.
It's a fun place to window shop too because the staff is almost always super knowledgeable. They're perfectly willing (and excited) to share insight and trivia about their specific interest areas. I learn a lot almost every time. Can't suggest this place enough if you are interested cool...
Read moreSuper friendly staff at the front desk, very patient with my questions about looking into selling old CD's and vinyl. There was actually variety than I had anticipated with a huge selection beyond just music.
The database for all Record Exchanges was helpful, when they realized that the location I was at did not have in stock what I was looking for, they searched other locations to find it for me.
The guy working the front desk was also helpful in sharing a place online that he frequents to find market value for old records and CD's, and was very well-versed in the genre I was looking to find more information about.
PRO-TIP: visit during non-peak hours, and you are very likely to have a conversation with staff beyond locating an item. They were very helpful and...
