Worst night's stay spent in Red Roof Inn, Grand Rapids on 03/24/17. This review form won't let me post without checking at least one star, and this location does not deserve that much of a rating. I called to reserve a room a week ago, and at that time I informed the front desk person that I had a VIP pass for a free night's stay to use as payment. She commented that she didn't know anything about these passes but would ask her manager, and insisted that I provide a credit card to use to hold the room, which I did. We arrived late in the night and upon check-in the same front desk person who took our reservation last week told us she didn't know how to use the pass but gave us keys and said "Since it's free you're all set, go ahead". Unfortunately the low-life gutter scum in the rooms downstairs were having a party with so many people they not only kept us from parking on the same side of the building as our room but also kept us from sleeping at all. From the very loud talking all night, to the pot smoking all night, to the escalated drunken shouting of profanities all night, to the resulting fights and arguments all night, to the pounding on the doors calling each other vulgar names all night, it all led to a down and dirty cat fight at 4:00 in the morning. I called the front desk and demanded she call the police as it had gotten out of control, and the front desk clerk assured me she would do so right away. The party continued for at least an hour after that and I think we finally fell asleep out of exhaustion at the same time. The next morning we went to the front desk to make a complaint and demand the return of our VIP free night's stay pass. The desk clerk this morning was very apologetic and looked at the nightly report and surprisingly enough (??) found nothing about the wild party and fight in the parking lot, or calling for the police, or even that we had called to complain. He was more than happy to return our pass but surprisingly enough (??) the VIP pass was missing, and could not be found anywhere in the night clerk's paperwork or anywhere in the building. He spent quite a bit of time searching for the paperwork then called his manager to see what he needed to do. The manager offered to mail us a new VIP pass immediately; however, surprisingly enough (??) the desk clerk informed us that my credit card had been charged for the full amount of the room!! He assured us that the credit card charge would be refunded, so first thing Monday morning I will be calling my bank to notify them of the fraudulent activity. My biggest concern is that if we hadn't felt the need to follow up with our complaint this morning we wouldn't have known about the disappearance of our VIP pass or the charge made to my credit card, and it would have been impossible to prove after the fact. I would hope that the night clerk at this facility is investigated for other similar fraudulent activities and terminated...I will be calling to verify this next week!! To add insult to injury and lack of sleep, the room was dirty and in poor repair. The mattress was cheap and extremely uncomfortable, and felt like we were sleeping on a box spring. There were several spots of mold in the bathtub and under the soap dish, floors in the corners and at the base of the doors were filthy, and there were moldy water stains on the carpet next to the bathroom where an obvious leak had occurred, but carpeting was never replaced. This was not reported to the front desk given the importance of the financial situation we were...
Read moreWe arrived at Red Roof Inn in Canton, Ohio on 8-30-18 to find our reservation date of arrival was incorrect so the clerk on duty quickly got us in a different room. Next morning we were assured by the day desk clerk, whom we had dealt with for years, would notify us when the room was available that we originally had reservations for. She did in fact inform me when the room was READY and it was ours for the next 7 days. We went to take care of funeral arrangements, lawyers, floral shop, insurance and over all, a very busy and trying day, only to be greeted by a very belligerent, nasty evening desk clerk named Shawna. I told her we had a room reserved, the day shift clerk was holding it for us until we took care of the funeral arrangements. Day clerk couldn't take payment until previous guests checked out and we could pay when we got back, we were at the funeral home when she notified us the room was empty and on hold till we got back. We get there to pay for at least a week with the understanding it would probably be even longer, our nephew, son of the deceased was already at Red Roof Inn several days prior to our arrival and was preparing to stay an additional week or longer, we were going to make reservations for 2 more families coming in for a few days from out of state, we had highly recommended Red Roof Inn to them. Like I said we have stayed and enjoyed this place multiple times over several years every time we came to Canton. Shawna had rented our reserved room to another guest and when asked hiw this could have happened two days in a row she became very verbal, nasty and belligerent and told us we could leave and threatened to kuck our nephew out too. She stepped in the cubby hole with her back to us, removed her name tag ans then REALLY GOT NASTY. She kicked us out of HER lobby, made a huge scene in front of other guests, told us we were being audioed and recorded, she then kicked us out and threatened to call the police. I opened the lobby door and requested a pillow I left in the previous room, she informed me she couldn't get it, told me come back in the morning. She proceeded to lock the lobby doors and made a HUGE scene. Customers could not get in. I called the police, three officers arrived and confronted her about my property she was withholding from me and she LIED to them too, denying she had a key to retrieve it. We have never been so embarrassed and harassed in our lives. We have been told 8-31-18 evening shift was her last here in CANTON, OHIO and she was being transferred to a MANAGEMENT POSITION in another state. CAN'T POSSIBLY UNDERSTAND WHY?????!!!!! WHY WOULD ANY ESTABLISHMENT WANT SOMEONE LIKE SHAWNA WORKING IN THEIR BUSINESS ???? I would welcome any comments from...

Let me start by saying Kennedy, who was my first contact with the hotel was a delight. She was very friendly and helpful when I made the reservation and upon checking in the next day. The 3rd shift lady, whose name I failed to get, was pleasant and helpful when I had to get new linens at 11:30 at night (will explain that below).
Now, my cousin got married Saturday so a lot of family came a long way for the wedding and I convinced my mom, 2 aunts and an uncle to stay at the Red Roof Inn. They requested 2 standard rooms on the first floor so, 4 people in their 80s, didn't have to haul luggage too far and we requested to be near them. Upon checking in, around 6pm, they were informed that they had none available on the first floor nor a standard room. When my fiancé and I checked in at 8pm we were given a room on the first floor (we requested to be near my family). At 11:30 that evening we were going to bed and saw what appeared to be blood on the sheets. Not sure that's what it was but that was the look of the (several) spots on both the fitted and the top sheet. We asked the 3RD shift clerk for new sheets and we changed them. There was barely a breakfast to be had, just some danish and English muffins along with a couple GREEN bananas. No butter, cream cheese nor anything else. Drinking coffee with the family we saw 2 cockroaches climbing the wall...in the breakfast area! The house keeper had her family helping her with the work, 2 children and someone who appeared old enough to be a spouse or significant other...harmless but I'm not too keen on that fact...labor laws and all. Paint off the ceiling in the bathroom and terrible paint job in the room. Hardwood floors made it not a very cozy room and the A/C had a musty smell when running.
THE HOTEL RATE WAS 3 TIMES THE PRICE SHOWED ON THE INTERNET WHEN THE RESERVATIONS WERE MADE!!! $180 (ish) a night!!
Upon leaving this morning, I went to get another cup of coffee at 8 am and both pots were gone. I went to the front desk and saw the clerk, Jeff, lounging in a chair behind the counter watching something on his phone. At checkout I asked for the corporate number and was told that there is no corporate office for Red Roof Inn. I disagreed, now annoyed, with him and was told this hotel is independently owned. I asked for the owners number and he said he can't give it to me. I asked that he call him and let me speak to him and was told he wouldn't do that. I asked for the owners name and was told the he didn't know it. This all is the short version. He, Jeff, was very rude and if the stay wasn't bad enough...he made it to where I never want to stay at a Red Roof Inn again!! Waiting for a call from...
