Made a detour this beautiful Sunday afternoon specifically to visit this place on my way to pick up my kids from my in-laws and was greatly disappointed. I fully expected there to not be much selection and it's small and still new but fully intended to buy something, even if it was just a little sticker. Unfortunately I was so incredibly uncomfortable I didn't linger much longer than to just see what books they had. The door was propped open for the amazing weather and after lingering outside for a moment to look at their rack of books I went inside, in which two ladies who were at the desk immediately stopped chatting and stared at me. When I offered a small wave and smile the one behind the desk gave me a very tight lipped smile and seemed very annoyed I was there while the other started working on their book vases. As I walked around looking at merchandise, the two women started chatting some more with each other, talking about needing to fill the vases so people would stop thinking they were real books and picking them up (they are absolutely super cute) but never once said a single syllable to me. If they weren't talking to each other it was dead silent until a group of young women came in. The lady behind the desk did say something to them, I'm not sure what it was, about bookmarks I think. Anyway, I left without getting anything because it was so awkward. I love love love small business in general but specifically small bookstores and I don't write this review to bash them. I hope they thrive! I'm more hoping they see this review and hear feedback on how freaking unwelcomed and unwanted I felt in the store, like my presence was an irritation and intrusion. I don't know if it was the owner or not in the store, but hopefully they learn in the very least how to say hello :( Maybe they were just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOther reviews have covered the cute vibes of this bookstore, and they're absolutely correct. But my favorite part was the selection of books, because everywhere I looked, I saw representation: tons of books by BIPOC authors. Lots of queer narratives (and the owner could even point several out as tailored recommendations). Neurodiverse main characters. The list goes onānot relegated to "features" in corners of the store, but interspersed on every shelf, right there amongst new riffs on classics, cute bookish merch, and that new paper smell. The owner was a delight to talk to; she seemed warm, boldly authentic, and intentional about making sure her store welcomes others' authenticity as well. I'm not a booktok girlie, but I think this place would be a booktok lover's paradise. As someone who doesn't usually read the uber-trendy books (arguably one of my vices), I also thrived here. It's a perfect little bookshop, because everything in Bibliobar was a celebration of not just books, but the people...
