This place has very fresh and flavorful dishes. I opted to do the Ebesu Course, which is a 4 course meal. It's $58 + tax per guest, which may seem like a bit much, but it's very much worth it.
Here is what I got: 1st course - homemade kurobuta shumai 2nd course - rotata assortment 3rd course - bara-chirashi don 4th course - matcha tiramisu
Pros: Each course is very flavorful. Even the sashimi pieces in the chirashi don were marinated so that when you eat it with the rice, it is not bland. Both the 1st and 2nd course are nice appetizers for the main course. The shumai was juicy, and it came with two different dipping sauces The rotata was grilled so you get a different savory taste that compliments well with fresh sashimi. The don is very filling. There's a good amount of rice, and there's a variety of fish, mushrooms, and more that's topped so you get different flavors each time you take a bit. I was getting very full on just the don itself. The matcha tiramisu has a strong matcha flavor, and not dry at all.
Con: The sauces for the shumai was a soy bean one and a chili oil. The soy bean is ok, and the chili oil was not remotely spicy. The fish and mushrooms in the don is marinated, so it may taste too salty to some people. If eaten by itself with no rice, it is definitely saltly. However, it is made to be eaten with rice, and it's worth it. The matcha tiramisu, although tasty, has a strong matcha flavor that brings more of an earthy taste. It is not very sweet. This is good for people who don't like sweet desserts. For me personally, I prefer some sweetness with it so I'm glad there was some whip and berry jam on it.
Overall: It is a very good restaurant to dine in. The environment is chill, the staff is friendly, and the food is amazing. The space is not very big so I would not recommend big parties that have more than 8 people. It's a smaller space, and it's better for...
Read moreWe don’t do ‘fancy’ sushi often… I have to admit, we’re just ‘normal’ folks. But we have experienced it in several cities so far. I will say hands down what we ate rivaled any other higher end sushi in quality and presentation you would expect in a high end place in NYC, etc. Everything I put in my mouth was absolutely sublime and husband agreed. A wonderful delicate and well thought out combination of flavors and textures in every bite.
We were slightly out of our element when we walked in because we had no idea what we were walking in to. We just decided to stop on a whim. We had no reservation (didn’t even think about making one) and it’s a small restaurant. But, it was early on a Saturday evening so we sat at the sushi bar. I’m glad we did. It was fun to watch the chefs create. When we saw the menu we realized that this was quite a bit more fancy than just going out for sushi rolls and a couple of maki, which was What we thought we were doing. No worries- We leaned in and ordered our favorite types of fish and just rolled with it. I’m SO SO glad we did.
It’s more expensive than we expected (this is Carrollton, not Dallas) but I’m not at all disappointed in what we spent based on the quality of what we ate. We will go back for omakase when we can afford it- maybe for a special occasion.
In the way of ‘complaint’ I don’t think the sushi chefs were great at explaining what we were being served. They sort of rushed the words and frankly don’t seem to speak great English. That’s fine, of course, but speaking slower and being a little more expressive would help. That’s why I gave a 4 for service. The rest of the servers were attentive and helpful.
We look forward to going back when we can afford another...
Read moreWe visited EBESU because YELP rated this restaurant #18 in the state. The restaurant is elegant, modern, and spacious yet cozy. The sushi is very fresh, some of the best we’ve ever had. We arrived during happy hour so our table ordered a beer, a saki mojito, and bacon wrapped tomatoes and quail eggs for an appetizer. Our main dish was four sushi rolls; Spicy tuna, Spicy Dragon, Salmon avocado cucumber, and Yellowtail Avocado cucumber. The prices were very reasonable, even less than other sushi restaurants in the city. When I made a reservation on the restaurant’s website, I indicated that we were celebrating a family birthday. We received a complimentary piece of cake with ice cream and a candle to enjoy after our meal. That made the evening so special. According to the website, parties of 2 or less are limited to 1.5 hours and parties of 4 or less are limited to 1 hour and 45 minutes. I assume this is because the restaurant is not large and very popular. The website also asks you to indicate that you accept these terms. Diners who arrive more than 20 minutes late for their appointment will lose their reservation. Our reservation options were very early or very late. If you go, and I highly recommend this restaurant, try to make reservations at least a few...
