Update to your response: Perhaps consider the information you received could be grossly exaggerated by the manager in question. There were 8 of us. It is documented in your reservations, number of receipts, as well as in my comments. Not 15. Despite what you may have been informed, can you honestly imagine 15 of us in the tiny booth for 4? That alone has to make you question your source. So if that was exponentially exaggerated just now, it would be reasonable to assume that the noise complaint was as well. Furthermore, you did not address any of the treatment prior to the first 2 of us even being seated. Or the treatment from her the remainder of the night. If there was a problem, there are more professional ways to handle customers. Of all people, the manager on duty representing the establishment should be trained and competent to do so.
-Recently had a reservation with friends for a girls night book club. We had to reserve our group as two 4 tops but we’re told on the phone our party of 8 could sit together. We’ve done this before here and it was so successful that are group photo was actually featured promoting this restaurant on the Downtown Plano page.
Upon arrival, our hostess/manager was difficult, argumentative, and aggressive towards us from the start. At this point in time only two of us were even checking in. We were polite and the restaurant had zero other customers. We were told we could not sit our party of 8 at the 6 top section next to the 2 top table. She claimed because the table didn’t have a candle and it was a fire hazard. We asked if we could sit 2 tables across from each other and told no because it’s difficult to serve us. However, I’m sure there has been plenty of occasions that two separate parties were across from each other and completely accessible to the servers. Hence, why the restaurant is designed as such. Instead, we were placed in the furthest back corner booth enclosed by the bathroom hallway. 8 people crammed in an enclosed 4 top with chairs blocking our exit. Now that is a 100% a true fire hazard. But hey, I guess we had a candle.
Eventually the remaining party joined and we tried to make the best of it, ordered a drink, and tried to enjoy ourselves. At one point someone came in with a date and we were told to shut up or leave. I get that it’s an intimate restaurant, but we were not very loud and shoved in the back anyway. We weren’t even asked nicely. She reprimanded us like children. Prior to the one date couple showing up we were the only business of the night.
I have never experienced such in inappropriately hateful person in the service industry. I’ve worked many years in restaurants as well. Her behavior was horrible. For whatever reason, she did not want us there from the moment we arrived without cause. Our waitress was awesome though and we felt awful for her. We tabbed out and tipped her graciously off the little we were able to order. I’m sure the manager is likely salary and has zero regard that her staff lost out on pretty much her majority pay for the evening on a slow Wednesday night the week after a holiday. 4 members of our party drove 40 minutes from Howe because they’d been wanting to come here. It was such a disappointment and complete conflict of how we were treated our prior experience. Despite the ambiance and decadent desserts and drinks, I can no longer see myself recommending this establishment for even an intimate date night due to the poor treatment...
Read moreThis place is definitely an interesting experience and I feel like everyone should come by at least once to see for themselves. You will either love it or hate it. Personally we enjoyed our experience and will consider coming back once more.
Service: I think our experience was definitely better because of the service. The waitress, Deborah, I believe, was probably the best employee at this establishment. She was knowledgeable, funny, and non intrusive which we love (we absolutely hate when waitresses come by every 5 minutes and interrupt our conversation). So she was definitely 10/10 tonight.
Food: We ordered the cake platter for $38 and two drinks. One was an espresso martini, and second - Casanova. The martini was definitely not strong enough to be a martini, but the ladder drink was delicious. They were both $15-$18 or so, each. The cakes tasted okay. I did ask the waitress if the cakes were made fresh considering some of the reviews I saw here, and she said that usually they are made within couple days. I don’t see a problem with this, but I did feel like at least the chocolate cake was a little off. Overall, the food was okay, not terrible, but nothing to brag about.
Atmosphere: The place is definitely themed. I’d say some of the decor is absolutely fitting and gorgeous and some of it looks like a 14 year old made using canva.com. One of the “complains” my husband had was that our booth are as well as some others had significant wear and it seems like from a business standpoint point it would be so cheap to just paint over large scratches and “holes” just to make it looks a little bit nicer. Or we liked the addition of curtains but I feel like if you’re going to cover half of the area, might as well make it so you can drag the curtain and enjoy some privacy? Especially considering how close the tables are. I feel like half of the time the guy to the left of us was just staring at our table. Now let’s talk about the menu: overall, it was alright, but some of the images were absolutely terrible. You cannot see what the item is at all. They zoomed in so much on that image that you’re left guessing if it’s just an ice cream or theres a brownie underneath it. Also some of them are incredibly off centered as well. Do with this information as you please.
The pricing and the bill: Like I mentioned before the pricing is definitely high. I would consider this to be around $100/person if you’re planning on getting two-three drinks and a dessert. Obviously, they can price their items as they please, but the location and the atmosphere do not contribute to that. Also I do not remember seeing on the menu the surcharge for a mixed drink. I just think it’s super tacky. If you’re charging $15 for a drink you should not add extra $1ish at the end of the meal. Just add it to the original price like so many other establishments or just be transparent about that in a way that we are aware. Again, they can do as they please but it’s just makes you feel some type of way.
And as mentioned at the beginning, we will give it another try and see how we feel second time around, but this is just our...
Read moreI hate that this is my honest review, we had been looking forward to this for quite some time. We had a reservation arrived at 9pm. Saturday evening experience, so we expected it to be busy. It's dark to fit the mood, but people using flashes for pictures every where and staff using flashlights. I get the idea, but if it's so dark people are using flashlights, it defeats the purpose. It was busy, so very loud and that didn't go with the theme in my opinion. The environment was odd, but understood. On to the food and service...
My date had a drink from the bar, it came out wrong, wine with a chocolate rim isn't hard, but hey, things happen and it was fixed. But this took 15+ minutes for 1 drink, but it's semi busy, so we are patient.
We order.... I the red velvet cheesecake and and her some chocolate cake with ice cream (Fever). It took 90 minutes to get those to us. 90 minutes and those are both premade items for the most part. Now I will say, the red velvet cheesecake was pretty good. Not worth that kind of wait, but worth a normal time.
Hers on the other hand... It was terrible. I'm sure that is a staple and lots order it as you can get a similar variation at nearly every restaurant. So, this should be very good considering it's a dessert place. Literally every time I've had a variation of that dessert, it has been significantly better than the one we had Saturday. We didn't eat but a few bites, cake overdone, dry and just plain bad, ice cream was not as advertised (blue bell), but tasted more like "frozen dessert" generic knockoff. Now this is a restaurant called Better than Sex, that only makes desserts. I hope someone in mgmt takes note, as it was such a let down we may not give it another chance. (We had been looking forward to going for 3 months!)
(One picture without the flash to...
