American Legion Post 23 in Point Pleasant is more than a building—it’s a cornerstone of community, service, and remembrance. Chartered in the wake of World War I, this post has long served as a gathering place for veterans and a hub for civic engagement. The American Legion itself was founded in 1919 to support those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, and Post 23 proudly carries that torch, honoring generations of local heroes while fostering fellowship and public service. We visited during the Mothman Festival, and Post 23 was alive with energy and hospitality. Several talented bands took the stage, filling the air with music that matched the festive spirit of the weekend. The food was hearty and satisfying—classic comfort fare served with a smile. Despite the crowds, the atmosphere remained welcoming and well-organized, a testament to the dedication of the Legion members and volunteers. Beyond events, American Legion posts like this one play a vital role in supporting veterans, organizing community programs, and preserving local history. Post 23 stands as a living tribute to those who’ve served, while also offering a space for celebration, connection, and civic pride. 🎖️ Tips for Visiting: - Check the calendar—Post 23 hosts events throughout the year, especially during festivals and holidays. - Support the kitchen—the food is made with care and often supports local causes. - Take a moment to appreciate the memorials and displays—they reflect the deep history and service of the area. - Engage with members—they’re often happy to share stories and insights about the Legion’s role in the community. - Consider donating or joining if you’re eligible—your support helps sustain their mission. Whether you're in town for the Mothman Festival or just passing through, American Legion Post 23 offers a meaningful slice of Point Pleasant’s heart and history.

Unique atmosphere that I totally love. The staff is awesome. They have a band down there sometimes called Hit and Run band of Parkersburg that is really good. Outside deck that overlooks the river.
