It is rare that I give 2 stars to a restaurant, but I feel this is well deserved.
Note: Do not confuse this with Ichban with excellent establishment in Charleston WV. These places are worlds apart.
From the moment we were seated I had that feeling that we should have gone somewhere else. We were sat next to the bar area which is used as a storage area for supplies. Ambiance is important when trying something for the first time.
We had the Gyoga (usually a favorite of mine) and were not blown away. They were kind of rubbery, like they were premade and re-heated.
We ordered a Rainbow roll and Dynamite roll along with an order of Lo Mein and Beef with Broccoli for our dinners.
The Lo Mein was virtually tasteless. The Beef and Broccoli had an odd texture that made us think it was going to come back to haunt us later.
The sushi...I've never had such poorly rolled sushi. You couldn't pick it up with chopsticks without it falling apart. It kept falling apart, dropping in the soy sauce, and splashing all over our clothes. Not okay. The flavor of the rolls was okay, but they were definitely not assembled properly. And the wasabi and ginger? The wasabi was nearly tasteless and the ginger, oh it was like rubber and smelled as if they had soaked in floor cleaner.
As a parting gift, my significant other nearly lost her dinner when she went to use the bathroom before we left. The sewer smell was overwhelming.
The only redeeming quality of this restaurant was the attentiveness of the wait staff. But it was empty on a Saturday night.
We will not...
Read moreMy family has been going to the Ichiban 2 since a few months after it opened. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! Keep in mind that we usually come here anywhere from three to 10 times a month. I cut my teeth on sushi here, and they alone turned me from a beginner to an enthusiast lol. Their lunch special prices are unrivaled, and their selection is better than most other hibachi and sushi restaurants around. The quality of the sushi has always been very good to me, though there have been days where it was a little lackluster in size or a little brittle in the past. The special rolls are very large and usually have over 11 pieces, so you can easily get a roll and a salad and you'll be full for hours! I love everybody who works here as well, they know us by name and are very polite and wholesome. They see me walking in and always ask me how my day has been and make sure I'm doing alright. Though we have seen a few new sushi places open up locally, I will always be loyal to...
Read moreComing over the bridge I saw this fairly new restaurant on the left. A little while before closing I walked in and was courteously greeted and promptly seated. I ordered the steak n shrimp hibachi which comes with fried rice, clear soup n salad. Choose your salad dressing (I recommend the ginger). I also ordered a rainbow sushi roll (sliced), and a spider roll (deep fried soft shell crab (sliced) and a sweet tea. Served promptly, the food was very good.😋 My server Morgan was courteous and attentive. The sushi is very reasonably priced. Let me make a comment here; If you want to try raw sushi and you've never had it before, I recommend the rainbow roll as it has salmon, tuna and yellowtail and virtually has no fishy flavor at all. Just good clean fish. Now add a very small bit of the green wasabi (Japanese horse radish), and dip or sprinkle with soy sauce and Bam, it's good! I enjoyed my meal and would recommend this establishment and will return here another...
