Port Townsend Henery Hardware — Local services in Port Townsend

I went into Henry hardware on the 22nd of August this year 2022. I was looking for two specific things. The first item I was having a really hard time finding on my own even though I was in the right aisle. I was looking for heavy duty picture hangers but the kind I saw were not ones that I needed. I then called out to an employee who happened to be walking down the main aisle and she went above and beyond the call of duty to help me out. We both unsuccessfully tried to think of different things that would work. She even asked the guys who were doing work in the back to help. Then she asked another employee if he could come and help and he did help and together they both went above what their job was even though it really wasn't difficult but they knew that this meant a lot to me to find these heavy duty picture hangers and I said well I guess I can always get them on Amazon and I was just really thankful that they were helping me.

I'm really not a fan of going into hardware stores because it seems like sometimes no one wants to help you and they figure well what does a woman know about hardware. Well I'm not a home decorator and I'm not building a home I just go in there for certain things. And these two people were the best people I've ever had help me out so yeah they get the full five gold stars and I will also send a letter to the manager or owner of the store...

They were out of the masks so I went across the street to Admiral Ship Supply. What cost 6.99 at Henerys cost less than 3 bucks including tax!! That's less than half price. I know admiral is a smaller store but considering the significant price difference I think its worth a stop first or at least a phone call to check. Also of note..the guys at Admiral might be busy but they don't make u feel unwelcome when u need help. So Henerys gets two stars just for being there and Admiral gets 5. Give them a try. Edit: no one on the floor to help. When I finally found someone, he told me that they were out of what I wanted, cause it wasn't on the rack. He usually works in freight so I asked him to check. Glad I did. After following him up and down the store, I decided to wait in one spot. A woman came out to help him, and found my item, which he them brought to me. Oh, so ur not out of them I said. What a revelation. Don't expect good customer service here. They would rather say they're out of something and send u out the door, all to get on with their next task. I'm changing my score...

Great little hardware store. But there are some caveats.

It gets extremely busy at times (weekends with nice weather) and the aisles are narrow. Trying to navigate all the unfocused shoppers can be very frustrating.

They only normally stock one of most items. Need a 10in speed square? Well too bad if someone else got to it first.

Parking is somewhat limited.

If you get to the store when it first opens or towards the end of the day the other issues are not that annoying. But when they are at peak I've come to just avoid the store altogether.

They do have a surprising selection of items despite the store's size. But if the item you are looking for is in stock is always a roll of the dice.

They do have an online catalog and free shipping to the store which I have used a few times. Shipping speed, item selection, and prices were very respectable for those...
