Avoid using the service department, I mainly dealt with Josh and Charlotte. They charge a $35 fee per warranty item citing that they have to cover their labor. I spoke with another local shop that does not charge for warranty work and they assured me that Trek does reimburse them for labor on warranty work. To be transparent, I bought a Trek Rail 9.9 XTR online that needed a tune up and the online retailer reimbursed me for Pedal's charges/labor. Had a few issues, but I will focus on the main one. I had a dead dropper cartridge and was having Josh service it. After dropping the bike off, Josh sent me this message: "First, the dropper is worse off than we initially thought. Not only is the cartridge not functioning but the actuator is jamming as well. We have a new dropper on its way here (no cost to you), but it is traveling from California and will not be here until at least Monday." Look at the attached photo and it is very clear that the actuator was damaged in a vice or with a wrench in an attempt to unscrew it. There is a definite counter-clockwise twist to actuator that is causing the bind that Josh described. Later Josh gave me the option of still purchasing the originally ordered dropper cartridge as a spare, without disclosing to me that the actuator was damaged while attempting to unscrew it to replace the actuator. I would have never known about this if I had not inspected the damaged dropper. I was still charged $45 for the dropper service even though their mistake caused a significant delay. I would have preferred installing the new replacement dropper myself to avoid giving them an opportunity to break anything else. Also mentioned that my rear brake lever was giving me issues and asked that it be bled. Josh did not discover that it was a faulty reach adjuster and not a bleed issue. Should have been very apparent after the lever feel was unchanged after the bleed. Other issues were mainly attention to detail. Josh did not engage the clutch on my rear derailleur after servicing it, so I had to discover that with a bouncy chain on the trail. Saddle rails were marked, but the saddle was re-installed in a different position. The seat post collar was installed way off center. They also rode it 1.4 miles which I feel is excessive without permission and I still had to fine tune the...
Read morePedal of Portage came highly recommended to me but as a long time Cannondale rider I chose to purchase a Cannondale in Schoolcraft. I began experiencing flat tires immediately (9 flats in 289 miles) going back to the dealer I purchased from twice I was refused help & told I was just unlucky and they didn’t want to see the bike back until it had a thousand miles on it. I took the bike to a couple bike shops in Florida over the winter where they couldn’t figure out what was causing the flats but acknowledged there was an unusual problem. Expecting more out of a $4,500.00 bike I was about to donate it to Goodwill. Having gone down on the bike a couple of times with front tires going suddenly flat I was getting reluctant to even ride it. My two friends again strongly recommended I bring it to Pedal before offing the bike in discouragement. They assured me at Pedal they wouldn’t care that it wasn’t their Brand that they really focus on service at Pedal. A service tech worked closely and patiently with me going thru a process of trial and error to finally discover it was in the wheels. The factory installed tape that protects the tube had very small hardened tips on the tape overlap that were causing the flats. Simple fix, three other shops just basically blew it off as bad luck. Not Pedal, they are problem solvers and service experts. Thank you Pedal for your dedication to service...
Read moreQuality service worth the price- I have been to Pedal for small parts and tools before, but this was the first time I brought in a bike for service.
I like to learn and perform maintenance myself, but I decided to bring in a road bike I bought from Walmart to get set up after I noticed the derailleurs were slightly offset. The basic service was $77 and covered adjustments to the drivetrain, cable routing, polish, air, etc.
I did not realise I needed to schedule an appointment for this service, as the website says walk-ins are welcome. I understand, as I am sure they are busy this time of year. I came in early in the week and had to make an appointment for Friday. I got my bike back the next Tuesday. It looked like new and shifted exceptionally.
I rode it 5 miles, and the next day the back tire was not holding air. There were no punctures in the tire, so I brought it back into the store. The associate found a small hole on the inner part of the tube near the stem, likely a defect. Even though they did not do any major tire work, they replaced the tube for free.
The employees here are always friendly, hold the door, and offer to help mount my bike on the car. While $77 seems a bit expensive to make some adjustments, they will make sure you...
