Hello readers. Being an Indian I always search for Indian cuisine wherever I go and recently I shifted to kalamazoo and found this restaurant. If you looking for halal chicken, this is the right place. Let's step onto our dishes , believe me I have tried and tasted half of the dishes provided/included in their menu but don't have pictures of all. Gonna rate per dish according to my visits. P.s they ask about ur spice level so mine is also medium spicy or if rate from 10 den it's 8
One day I came for buffet also and all the items were grt in taste and buffet is only available on weekends The service was prompt and the staff is friendly. Overall it's good and must visit over...
Read moreThe dosa was too salty to start. Then, some of us ordered no spice, but the receipt say mild and it was so spicy. I couldn't eat mine, as it was more like medium spice. This is not my first eating at an Indian restaurant. I've also been to Hillside some years ago for buffet as well and loved it. It has changed. I love spicy, but I get acid reflux with too much. This was inedible for me. When I asked the waiter if it was no spice as I had ordered then why is it so spicy, he had nothing to say. I got a vegetarian eggplant dish. It was so salty, I could not taste the usual aromatic flavor of Indian cuisine. Many of our dishes due to over spiciness and saltiness, we did not bring home as leftovers. This is something we NEVER do. It is wasteful. Service was not good as well. We get these little bottles of water and they didn't check on us so we could get a refill. Waiter knew we had called him over about the spice. Still never check to see if we needed anything. One young waitress offer a drink for the kids with us and when I said no thank you, she rolled her eyes. When I go to pay, the waiter stared at me while I sign the receipt. I never skip a tip, but he was watching me write. It was the only attention we seemed to get from the waiter that day. I couldn't even think how much to leave with the staring, so I just leave. Will not be going back again. $70 for 4 adults and 2 toddlers. We hardly ate, brought home just the rice with a few bites of lamb, and the rest was left for garbage because it was just salt and heat. Worst Indian food any of us...
Read moreI’ve visited Hillside Indian Cuisine in Kalamazoo two or three times, and unfortunately, both visits left me disappointed. The first time, there were flies buzzing around inside the restaurant. When we brought it to the staff’s attention, the response was quite dismissive—they said, “It’s the season of flies; it’s everywhere.” That was unprofessional and frustrating.
My most recent visit was for a graduation celebration with a group of 7. We went for the Saturday buffet, hoping for a good variety and quality. The vegetarian options were incredibly underwhelming. As someone from South India, I was especially disappointed by the so-called “lemon rice”, “paneer” it was barely recognizable and tasted off. One of my friends ended up eating only dessert because the main dishes were just that bad.
The non-veg options had one or two decent dishes, but the rest were either bland or repetitive. For a total bill of $120 (even after a student discount), the experience felt like a complete waste of money. Honestly, our first choice was Madras Indian Grill in Grand Rapids, and in hindsight, we really should’ve stuck with that plan.
If you’re looking for quality South Indian food or a good buffet experience, I’d recommend...
