Iāve been going to Scottās for years. I started as a kid and have enjoyed the array of coins and coin supplies you have. Scott himself is a great guy. I respect him for the time and effort he has put into the business, and itās due to this that I kept my review rating higher. Iāve sold coins here once before, and Scott actually gave me more than I expected. YMMV. Unfortunately my experience yesterday changed my opinion of the store employees. I entered the store and talked to the male employee, who Iāve seen there many times, saying I had coins to sell. He must not have been having a good day, because he didnāt look pleased at the idea. While going through my coins, he made multiple comments that made me feel bad about the coins Iād brought to him. He scanned through some Canadian money and offered 3 dollars for it, when in reality it was a largely MS collection of different important Canadian dates and celebrations that was worth 14.58 at face value (so I quickly said no to that - also, that was one of the three or four things he gave a value for, of many). He never told me what he was giving me for individual bigger items or informed me what the vast majority of the smaller coins were worth. He kept saying that Scott would give a value on the large cents and on other items, but then did those himself. He gave $161 for the items he purchased, which included $25-ish of euros, so in essence, $135 for many old pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, etc, including six or seven large cents, ten to fifteen each of Indian heads, mercury dimes, liberty head nickels, as well as a three cent piece, capped bust dime, barber quarter, liberty half, a largely full type book including an old ounce of silver, as well as a number of other coins and coin sets. Plus, there was foreign currency from Europe and Asia, as well as war time currency. He made several comments that seemed as tho they implied I was uneducated about the coins I was selling, such as when he ripped open some nice BU ā50s wheats and dropped one on the ground. āI ripped open that bag of wheats because there was a double die in 1955.ā Yeah, dude, well if I had randomly placed a BU 1955 double die in a baggie with other pennies, condition wouldnāt really matter since you dropped the penny on the ground anyway. In reality Iāve spent more time working with wheat pennies than he has. Iād painstakingly looked closely at these coins, admiring their condition and setting them aside, when in reality, if Iād known that he was going to offer mere pennies for my personal favorites, and that the coins would just be swung into the box like I hadnāt spent fifteen to twenty years of my life owning them, Iād have skipped coming. He scooped coins that Iād just spent 8 hours sorting, straight into the rest of the box without offering how much he was giving for them. I had a list that I compiled of how much Iād get for each item, and the collection to me, what I would have paid for it, was worth more than double what he offered. I honestly was so shocked at the low price while thinking āIām a broke nursing student and need the moneyā that I accepted without asking many questions or trying to see what he offered per item. It seemed like he preferred to spend his time in closer proximity to one of the female employees near the jewelry, as several times and at the end he quickly scooted away. Smiles were limited and used to mainly make me feel like he was smiling when he was doing anything but. The entire mood of the empty shop was gloomy and silent as I walked out. Frankly, I then went to do another errand at a tire company, and when they offered to put new tires on for a fee, I actually thanked them for offering to assist me because I wasnāt used to such good service that day. I feel bad writing this review, but not as bad as I did yesterday. Scottās is still a good company. The owner is good. I just wonāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went to Scottās coins yesterday with a 1905 indian head penny. It was an error coin. Josh told me it wasnāt worth anything. So today I called back to speak with Scott. He was with a customer. So I spoke to someone else and sent pictures of my penny again. For Josh to call me and be extremely rude . Saying what did I want to know. So again I told him my coin was an error coin. Which makes it worth more than the standard Indian head penny. So then he says thatās not something weāre interested in. Then I said that would have been what should have been said yesterday instead of my penny wasnāt worth anything. Mind you I spoke with Scott himself who told me to bring the coin in as if in fact it was an error coin it would be worth more then standard Indian head penny. Very disappointed in the service I received from Josh and the rude call back this morning. As stated before I went there yesterday. When I called back I was told Iād have to come back to see the value of penny. I sent pictures to them as I was not driving 30 more miles to be told one thing. So I sent pictures of the coin which proved it was a error coin. For Josh to call back and be rude to me. The First Gentleman I spoke with gave me number to send pictures of my coin. Which I did. Then Josh call to say weāre not interested. Okay then you should of said that yesterday , instead of of tell me it wasnāt a error coin. Poor business. Just be upfront . Not interested. Not you donāt have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm not a huge collector or anything, but I love going to Scott's to see all the things they have. Even my 11 and 13 year old daughters love going. They have quite a nice selection of jewelry, coins and coin collecting materials, some stamp stuff, and sports collecting items. My interest is in the coin selection. My biggest hobby is metal detecting. I like finding old stuff, like the old coins from back before the 1900's. Being able to get supplies to allow me to save and display my finds locally at a good price is really nice. Scott's has a great selection of items to help you store, display, and preserve your coins and at really good prices too. Most of the things you can get at Scott's are well below Amazon prices, and these days, that's a rare thing. The staff there has always been so friendly too. They love what they do and absolutely love to share their passions with people that have the same passions and interest, and are always willing to help provide as much information on something as you want. It's so nice to see a place that has a bunch of people that enjoy what they do and just plain like helping you out. If I could take off half a star, I would, but only because of the location. This is on a very busy major street and it can be pretty tough turning in and out of the parking lot there because of how busy it is sometimes. It's really worth it, but still a pain in...
