Update to owner response: the TCG market value for Dom Remastered Draft Booster as you posted your preorder on January 8th was $179.29, in November it was $240 and it steadily declined, you did nothing to market correct, you actually valued higher at $256.99 when the highest was $249.99. You also said you check Amazon, EBay and Local Game Stores as well. Clearly you don’t.
As for the response of the prices being so high due to the fact that you provide health benefits, vacation, higher pay and the like, that’s great. I honestly applaud you for that.
However, by jacking up the prices not just a little but a lot you can potentially be harming business that helps provide for those workers, hopefully you are able to sustain business and provide over time but stuff like pricing out a product for a collectible card game puts a bad taste in some people’s mouths.
In addition, loyalty goes both ways and when you quite literally “price gouge” a product you will loose a customer base that not only regarded you as a potentially good/fair game store but one that shopped at your store even though the prices were a little higher.
Luckily Portland and the surrounding area have an abundance of game stores to choose from.
Edit: After seeing responses from the owner regarding the pricing on TCG games being based on Amazon/EBay and the current market. No one is selling the boxes remotely close to $256.99. Out of control.
Overall this place is a good LGS and I have nothing bad to say about the staff or service.
But the Magic The Gathering pricing is starting to border on insane. When midnight hunt came out there was about a $25/$30 mark up on the draft booster box, which wasn’t like extremely ridiculous.
However, Dominaria remastered is coming out next week and Red Castle is offered pre orders for it at $256.99, you can literally go to any other LGS in town and get the same product for about $185, that’s a $72 dollar markup.
Insane, I just don’t understand that there can be a justification for for that much of a mark up when believe they are getting the box for around...
Read moreI went here with my partner this last weekend to meet up with a new group of friends. We wanted to go somewhere chill and talk about dungeons& dragons and maybe get something to drink or a bite to eat. I was extremely pleasantly surprised with this place. Not only where their energy drinks really good and affordable, but the food was really good too. My partner got fried pickles and said that they were some of the best fried pickles that they have had since they lived in the south. That is a huge compliment from them lol.
The staff were all super friendly and just really lovely. The people at the front who are taking orders and making drinks were really sweet and made great recommendations. The people in the games store area were incredibly kind and giving compliments about what we were wearing. The game store itself was very clean, easy to navigate, they had a great selection of games and of TTRPG books. They had a really good selection of minis and it seemed like they had paints and such. There were a lot of dice and the place was just covered in board games.
They have a private area that you can rent for I think $20 an hour but don't quote me on that because I don't work there, and the private area was a large room with a large table in the middle, A huge flat screen TV that had a webcam attached to it in case you had people that were remotely playing with you.
Considering you can step outside the room and immediately order food and drinks, it was definitely worth $20 an hour. If you have three to four people to split the fee, it's even more affordable.
I am absolutely going to go back here. I actually want to go back here this weekend. I want to buy some of their dice, I want to eat some more fried pickles or maybe mozzarella sticks or tater tots cuz those are my favorite things, I am craving their energy drinks which is weird for me, and I just really like this place.
Should do yourself a favor and check out Red Castle games and eat some of the good food and drink one of the energy drinks... And plan a meet up for here because it was...
Read moreInteresting place. The employees are all very friendly and welcoming. HOWEVER, they are also among the most incompetent, non-listening, poor at math, immature staff you are likely to run across. This store has great potential, but as long as the staff remains unable or willing to take the time to actually provide good service, it's not a place I can recommend to anyone. Their web site is also full of errors in pricing and incorrect/non existent product. A pure bait and switch. DO NOT spend your money there. The owner has a reputation for doing things cheaply and at the expense of others. With so any other options I don't know why anyone would shop there.
Response to store poster; I am sorry, I do not have time to manage your store for you, though I credit you for trying once again to get someone to do something for you should do yourself. Nor do I believe you care enough to do so. As long as the silver spoon and slum lord money hold out you should be fine.
Update: I tried them again after 8 months. Went to 3-4 weeklies and had a good time. Went today and was told I was "banned" from the store. Was told there was a complaint of some, unspecified kind. I call BS. There were NO complaints or problems. My guess is they put this review together with me in the store and decided to be vindictive. Fine. I'll happily spend my money elsewhere. I gave them another chance, but they apparently take a very shortsighted view of customer service. Previous experience CONFIRMED. Don't...
