I'm new to town and love breakfast out, so in my travels I always seek a good greasy spoon for taters and eggs. This place looked perfectly authentic and divey. The atmosphere, relaxed and no frills - a good start, and I have to admit, the eggs were cooked to perfection, and I loved the fresh orange slice and perky sprig of parsely to aid digestion. But it was a good thing they did that little extra because the hashbrowns were so greasy they almost left a puddle on the plate. I love greasy hash browns but this was a bit sickening, and they were way over cooked to mush; so greasy-mushy was the effect. The coffee was very slow to get filled because the 3 others in the restaurant, who were morning regulars, had less interest in coffee. So I was put on their schedule, despite that my coffee cup was pushed in front of me in full view, during her plodding passes in front of me. She seemed on her own schedule, with no interest in mine, despite the empty room and nothing else needing her attention. I just didn't feel any love while there at all. And so while waiting for my coffee refills, I stared at the grease on my plate. This grease meditation during my breakfast, probably affected my review. Lol. I did however notice one of the regulars brought her own, extra large cup, for her coffee. So there's an idea. But even if I brought my own cup , I'd still have eaten from that pooled grease and left feeling a bit sick, so I won't be back again, despite that those eggs really were cooked to perfection, and the bill made me feel better for the mistake in choice for my morning breakfast. I won't make the mistake again, but i'm not mad...
Read moreLove this place! Especially the Asian influence to their menu. I mean, it’s still your classic 1950’s era American Diner but you can get good Chinese food and fusion dishes too. It reminds me of the Cuba d’Asian restaurants in New York City. I used to eat there all the time, but had to do without while they remodeled last year, and for now, takeout. The remodel includes an outdoor area, so on good weather days, great food in the fresh air! My favorite lunch is the pineapple burger which another reviewer didn’t enjoy, thus prompting me to write this review. You just cannot compare pineapple and teriyaki burgers. Most teriyaki dishes are like eating extra sticky Slim Jim’s. The Maple Leaf’s sweet and sour is the best and freshest in Portland! This isn’t your chemical filled little plastic sauce packets! Sorry if you thought your patty was thin. I’ve never experienced that. Once I thought my fries were cold and jokingly mentioned it to the waitress. She brought me more straight from the fryer. I know I’ve written a lot, but I’ve eaten here since the late 1980’s and can’t say enough good things about this place and that last review sort of fired me up! So,...
Read moreNothing good to say. Worse then con-artist, as they ripe off customers and employees. It’s like a snake in the grass, never see it till your bit. Crocekd thumbs, counting your money and talking behind your backs. Don’t see the same ol crowed any longer do you? I’ve eatten there quite a few times so has my family. My uncle and his wife are there often once. “Terry and Carolyn” many of my friends. but how they treat their works is awful! It’s repulsive their last three waitresses, have been stolen from. Not just wronged, but not payed for their hard work. The tips you may leave from your hard earned pay checks are pockedted, same as employees by owners! I’m sure you know all party’s involved if your the in crowed/regulars. They run tabs up for regulars and settle debts, with Oregon trail cards. Poor Patrick’s disabled and yet a target, like their miss treated staff. The owners boys even slave for little nothing. Not even recognition. And the boys are the only ones that can cook. That’s why your their right? Too eat. It’s failing because they miss treat those who brings them Business! No kinda place to eat other then faking friends and...
