So I really have tried hard to not be negative about Poppy.
When I moved to Pullman, I was thrilled to find Poppy, using the Davines salon-finder. I REALLY wanted an eco-friendly salon. And I had gotten spoiled on Davines products and incredibly-trained Davines reps. I couldn't believe my luck in moving to a small town with a Davines salon.
I've had my hair, my goddaughter's hair and my daughter's hair done here and... It's questionable, at best. One of the things that bothers me is that I honestly can't really tell how eco-friendly the salon actually is. I wanted to like the sort of eclectic use of old salon furniture rather than the latest and slickest looks but actually... It's not that comfortable or charming, once you get past the front desk. It also doesn't solve the biggest problems of environmental impact in a salon. If they're a member of Green Circle Salons, I have yet to hear about it. And that brings me to another problem... I have never heard anyone in the salon actually discussing the environmental impact of their products or in any way talking up products. Y'all could be moving a LOT more merch, and it'd probably make an impact on this community. You have an unusually high number of well-educated and well-employed professionals, here. Your pool of clients to draw on is big. Tbh, I'm not even convinced my last dye job WAS Davines product. I was handed a Redken hair book and when I said "but it will be Davines product, right?" my stylist said she had to go check they had the right colors in stock. đ±đ€Ż
I also have qualms about the quality and professionalism. Like others have said, I was rushed. And one of the times, my stylist was so harried that she put the wrong dye on the wrong parts of the hair. It ended up costing both of us 5 hours. She fixed it for free, obviously, and I think she ended up charging half in the end but... She still got the color wrong. We were trying to take my goddaughter's hair back to original - which was a dark ashy blonde and instead we got... Auburn. All three of us, both girls and myself, have had at least one long piece that had to be chopped.
I got spoiled, and I know it. My last salon served drinks (and I don't mean a can of soda), and generally ran specials where you could combine a 30-minute in-chair massage while waiting on hair to process. They had an in-house esthetician and again, frequently ran combo deals. Relaxation and conversation were the order of the day and clients talked to each other and stylists encouraged that. Salons have long been a place of social movement as well as beauty. And honestly, I'd pay for that again. I already did so in a poorer city than Pullman, on a much less comfortable wage. I just see a lot of missed...
Read moreI wanted to love this place, but unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations at all. After going to one salon most of my life back home, I decided to try Poppy after realizing my highlights were pretty grown out and I was getting my grad photos taken soon. I heard tons of great reviews from friends and so I booked for a partial highlight for long hair. When my appointment started, I specifically asked if it was possible to have the highlights go all the way to the roots to lengthen the amount of time before I needed to get them done again. I donât need them throughout my entire head/ underneath, but I especially like my hair light in the front. I knew if I booked a partial highlight some services wouldnât be possible so I asked in the chair if what I wanted was possible and showed photos, and was told that it was possible.
The service it self was great- I booked with Rach and she was fun to talk to, made sure I was comfortable and I loved the salon. Unfortunately though, about a week after I first got my highlights, my hair looked like the first picture below. It looked, to me, like I hadnât gotten anything done at all and on top of that, it was more brassy than it was before I even went in. I called the salon and asked if there was any way they could fix it and Rach got me back in as soon as possible, which was also something I was really happy about. I showed her the areas I was worried about and explained what I had wanted again. That was on April 12 and unfortunately, on May 11, my hair looks like the second photo below. My hair does not grow that fast (I wish it did) and I followed all procedures she mentioned for keeping the toner in my hair but it looks, again, like I havenât gotten it done in months- grown out and brassy, something iâve never experienced before this salon, and iâve been getting partial long hair highlight touch ups every 4-6 months for almost 5 years now.
I added 2 stars to this rating because again, Rach and the rest of the poppy staff were kind and accommodating and definitely wanted to make the situation right- it just seems like this time...
Read morePhotos taken as soon as I got home after cut and highlights.
I asked for ashy highlights blended at the roots and got uneven all over yellow color that already looks like I need to get it done again. I have had the same thing for years and it has never looked horrible like this!
The cut is wild! It looks like a single chop across the back of my head? My friends literally laughed when they saw it.
After seeing what happened in the salon I was more afraid of how âcorrectionsâ might ruin my hair more and wanted to mitigate the damage so just left.
Worst of all, I vaguely remember seeing an email from months ago regarding a new price structure that included gratuity. I asked to double check it was included and my stylist said no, not included and not needed but always appreciated it. I was dumb enough to trust her instead of myself, gave her a tip bc I care about other humans wellbeing, and left. Upon checking my email again I saw that gratuity IS IN FACT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE NOW. I added a photo here for you.
Keep in mind, stylists here will just whip out their phone to take pictures to promote themselves on instagram without even talking to you about it. I understand marketing is important but with no consent to be used as a model for their instagrams, this tacky and unprofessional.
Options here are slim so we are stuck with what we can get but there are lots of other salons so go elsewhere, get good work done, and work with honest stylists.
Edit : I added appointment confirmation shots so everyone can rest assured this is a real review.
The policy to take photos is absolutely included when you sign up for this salon! This is a policy at this location. Plenty of other places have other policies. Just highlighting it here for others :)
I encourage others to ask price structure for their specific stylist prior to appointment.
I appreciate the offer to get back in touch but I already found someone else...
