Overall a great experience! We had someone in our party that has a shellfish allergy and the staff was very careful not to contaminate their food. We started with an appetizer: the Black Cypress Dipper Platter, and the bread that came with is was SO delicious! It was perfectly salty, soft, and a little bit chewy but still flaky! We also got some house buns, and those were so soft on the inside with a super thin layer of buttery crust and sea salt and a slight hint of lemon zest. Our entrées included the Caesar Salad, the Pasta Carbonara, and the Pork Chop. The Carbonara had thinly sliced Parmesan perhaps Romano or Asiago with large chunks of specialty bacon smoked to perfection. The bacon was chewy with a tiny bit of char and the dish overall was precisely what I think of when I hear Pasta Carbonara. I didn't try the Caesar Salad, but the Pork Chop was tender and juicy, lightly seasoned, however I think it could have used just a pinch more salt. It came with a vegetable slaw that was so fresh it had such a wonderful snap when chewing it. The mashed potatoes were absolutely perfect, smooth and rich with flavor. I also ordered a Strawberry Lemonade, completely hand squeezed and I could taste the freshness of the lemon juice and the balanced sweetness of the simple syrup made from real sugar. Our dessert was the Brownie that came with three scoops of chocolate ice cream, toasted marshmallow cream, a sort of thin chewy cookie, and a decadent gooey brownie with that perfect flakey layer on top. My ONLY complaint was that the people behind us were quite loud and at times a little obnoxious however, that wasn't the restaurant's fault and they couldn't have prevented that. The restrooms were clean and flawlessly decorated. Our server was very professional, and the service overall was absolutely impressive. Our tab came to $144 for an appetizer, two lemonades, two plates of house buns, three entrées, and a dessert. Considering the quality of the food, the outstanding service, and the lovely experience my family and I had, that is a pretty good deal for fine dining for three. The Black Cypress is the best fine dining restaurant in the...
Read moreNIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE! Wish I could give 0 starts. Booked reservations to take a colleague from out of town here. Got to the restaurant and they'd lost the reservation (in hindsight, I'm not sure they ever actually wrote down our reservation). After a 30 min wait, we were placed at a table in the middle of the room, where the ambient noise was so loud, we couldn't communicate without shouting at each other. After ordering appetizers which were far too small for four people (we were assured what we'd ordered was enough for four...), the server disrupted our shout/conversation to change the silverware. When I asked why, I was told it was because the original setting "didn't match the entree plates." (Seriously) Four different entree were ordered and each was so salty, no one could eat it. Also, this place seems to have a misogynistic undertone - the woman in our party was served and considered last in literally every exchange with staff (I could understand once, but really?!! Every time?? It was noticed by everyone at the table). To be blunt, this place is a joke when it comes to fine dining (their ambiance gives off the vibe of a nice place and thus many are brainwashed into thinking this is good when in reality, Denny's could be better). Have been here twice thanks to others suggesting the place and will not go back. At this point, I strongly suggest that anyone who visits Pullman not bother going here. Go to Foundry or any of the other restaurants in town where you're likely to be treated with at least a modicum of respect for what you're paying. And, if you're craving lamb, go to Mad Greek or Mikey's in Moscow - good food with 0% attitude. (I am not affiliated with any of the local restaurants but do value not being treated poorly or having anyone in my company treated...
Read moreYou know that feeling when you see a friend after a few years, and about halfway through the meeting you realize you should've just stayed with your new friends?
That was me this weekend after promising the S/O this place for a few years. I'm not sure what happened with my old friend. Maybe it was when they stopped offering packs of beer for the kitchen? Maybe now the staff doesn't have to work for a tip?(which seems to work everywhere else besides Pullman.) I don't know.
We were seated in a timely manner, though it was a good thirty minutes from being seated until receiving our cocktails, even at ~50% occupancy. Food service was taken in a hardly reasonable time. The food and cocktails are this place's only saving grace. Our server even had walked near us at least three times with back turned, acknowledging a party of five (of whom he seated after us and even offered to pack their meal befor ours).
During our meal, we had seen the busser and hostess at least three times (both whom were fantastic), meanwhile never seeing our server within 45 minutes to even offer a second drink, or to even ask how our meal was. Literally came up to the table after us sitting idle for nearly 15 minutes and asked us if we were ready for our check. . .
I have never felt the need to leave a poor review, but last thing I'd want is someone else to waste their hard-earned money for lackluster service. I guess if money and respect doesn't mean much, then by all means go, but if you work hard for your dollar, your money is much more...
