I’ve tried accepting the terrible workmanship, I’ve tried telling myself at least I have 2 new windows ( that took multiple calls because originally I was told it had to be custom window but they installed a cheap generic window from someplace like Menards. My home is over 120 years old and so yes, I cared ) they originally did assessment and we talked about it, they offered to actually insulate because it’s non existent in my home. I worked my entire life. My first job in the early 70s was a paper boy and odd jobs on other farms until I enlisted in U.S.Navy in 1981 @ 17 , Navy has contested responsibility and litigation will never stop but other Vets understand the difficulties with filing . I was injured ( not combat related) but the surgeries that began in NC in 2002 never stopped and I’m now 100% disabled. I was self employed until I needed help but I didn’t pay enough in taxes so once moving to the Black Hills I had no options left ( the Affordable Care Act wasn’t yet law ) I’ve been living on SSI since 20012 ) my home is all paid for, my life’s work. Anyways, after they returned to my home they did such an unprofessional job between basics like caulking, mounting fire detectors and door strips that for about a year now I’ve been trying to fix myself. THEY NEVER insulated anything and it could be argued they devalued my home. The excuse was they were going to fix my concerns. They installed a 2nd window and moved strips around. They insist that the policy is not to insulate because of efforts and they are NOT PROFESSIONAL at all . Actually I don’t know policy for them I just would rather not be lied to. Evidentially because I’ve attempted what I could while waiting on 2 lists for close to 8 years to caulk and maintain they only said when they returned my home didn’t have a lot of air movement. After being lied to it’s apparent that their one policy is that if you live within a paper bag that it’s ā€œ normal ā€œ to not save money on utilities. That’s why I filed for assistance, save money on A/C& heating. In fact when reviewing my utilities accounts it is as though nothing was done ( because it was a massive misplaced hope, you wait for years when they come out and do an energy survey and they kick you in the gut, I was told many things by these people and lied to repeatedly. I can prove that but ,, who can help ? Not the people you should be able to) I’ve only added 3pics because this review has gutted me. I’ve tried finding acceptance and moving past but it is DIFFICULT especially after being LIED To. Get EVERYTHING in WRITING or my best advice is use the program from any other agency. By the way for this house keeping it about 60 degrees during winter and 72 in summer my BLACK HILLS ENERGY bill averages $385 / summer and much higher in winter. So yes, I don’t know what to do. There’s only 2 of us here and because of my spine and legs I need a lot of help. The last 7 spine surgeries were completed ( butchering provided by Black hills orthopedic and spine, last time my spinal cord was damaged by surgeon and you can’t hold them responsible in sd because no attorneys would be bothered due to limited payout due to additional restrictions...

Hit and miss how you will be treated by staff. Hit and miss with negotiable pricing. Found out after my brother began working there that THERE IS ALWAYS room for negotiation, but it is a game with employees how many people they can get to pay the listed price. I could almost understand if there was compensation for sales made with commissions. That is not the case at all. The proof came the day I shopped and thought an item was over priced by at least $50, when the person assigned to help me by the front desk refused to even look at the listed price from a local retailer for brand new I decided to test what my brother had previously warned me of. Left unhappy and disgusted at the thought of what he discovered and shared with me could possibly be true. Went back the next day and the front desk assigned my brother. No, they didn't know of our relationship....(shouldn't have mattered). I offered $75 less for the same item, showed him on loctation in the same spot ibstood the day b4 that my local option buy would be new with a 90 day full refund with receipt versus their 4 yrs old used item of the same name brand no return accepted sold as is item. He discounted the tag on site. Brought it to the same front desk person from the day before and received the $75 off that I showed the item was fairly worth. This store received this and all items free. Staff in this particular store plays games with lower income peoples budgeted income. People that believe they do so much good for the community with the Habitat For Humanity Builds need to take a closer look at the program and its people. I have pointed out in depth one flaw of the Rapid City, SD location. But worse than this on-site game or hustle is the lack of follow up on the Habitat For Humanity Build side of this 'Program'. First and foremost obvious example being they offer ZERO FINANCIAL COUNSEL, SUPPORT, OR PATIENCE WITH FAMILIES UNDERPRIVILEGED, UNDER EDUCATED WHICH IF YOU DID LIKE I DID AND ACCESSED PUBLIC RECORDS FAIL 87% OF THE TIME, LOSING THEIR HOME AND FALLING BACK TO WHERE THEY BEGAN OR WORSE WITH ADDED REGRETS OR FEELINGS OF FAILURE ONCE AGAIN. THUS ALLOWING PEOPLE THE CHANCE TO PAY PAST DUE AMOUNTS AND WHAT IS STILL OWED. YES, YOU CAN BUY OUT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOMES AFTER PEOPLE PAID FOR YEARS ON THE HOME. YES SOME FORFEIT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY DUE TO THE FACT THEY MAY NOT HAVE BEEN VETTED AS WELL AS SHOULD HAVE BEEN OR MAYBE THEY WERE THAT DECEPTIVE IN THEIR WAYS. IN WHICH CASE THE HOUSE IS USUALLY DAMAGED OR NOT KEPT UP WITH MOST PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE OR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. IF YOU TOOK THE TIME TO READ MY REVIEW IT MAY SEEM THAT I HAVE AN INSIGHT TO MORE THAN MOST. AND YOUR RIGHT, SO CALL ME LIKE I SEEM TO...

We have been to many 'habitats for humanity' but this one really stands out in my mind.. When you walk in it seems like any other Habitat, with a lot of odds and ends for your needs around home... But as you get farther into the room you will find a door leading into another building... I was amazed at how many different items were stuffed into the area. You could find washers and dryers, bathroom fixtures, bedroom sets, living room furniture. Anything at all for your home.. Then another area had some outdoor equipment like mowers, edgers, tillers, etc... I wasn't needing anything in particular but if I had been, I'm sure I would have found it there.. If you're planning any small remodel or backyard project you might want to check them out.. It could save you...
