This restaurant we ate at Saturday night was absolutely terrible! Horrible customer service and I could just tell by their location that I wouldn't have a very good experience. My granddaughter and I went to wash our hands in the bathroom and the bathroom was filthy and there was NO soap in the container so we could wash our hands with soap. Walking to the bathroom down the hall, there were things, just stuff sitting around along side the walls and the door or wall had holes in them. There was a small child that was running around without supervision, and he about ran into one of the waiters. I'm assuming it was the owners or one of the employees kids. The tables were all very crowded together in the middle of the floor and no room to do the social distancing. The table we were sitting at was very close, next to the other table, not even room enough for people to walk in between the two tables. We might as well have all been sitting at one big table. We just had a terrible experience dining out there and our food was horrible. I asked the waiter to come over and finally after the 4th try of getting his attention, he came over to us and I explained I asked for no refried beans and when I got my food, there was a serving of refried beans, so I let my boyfriend eat those, I ate the rice which was all dried out and there was a very small enchilada and I had it with shredded beef. There was a icky taste to that, and then I took a bite of my chimichanga and it was full of refried beans. I told him I wasn't going to pay for this meal, meaning my dish, or the gross coffee that they served, which was over $2.00 a cup. I asked him nicely if he would take those two things off my bill. So he took my plate back to the kitchen and brought me the receipt, they took off the coffee but only discounted my plate of food to $5.99 off the original total and they even charged me $1.25 for sour cream bcos I asked since there was a very tiny tiny on my chimi. I told him I didn't feel I should even have to pay for it BCOS it was horrible and the owner stood there in front of the whole restaurant arguing with me over my bill, making a big scene. I would think instead of making a scene with a customer, he would've just taken the entire dish off of my bill. I wasn't even able to get out that my granddaughter's grill cheese was burned and the cheese was all dried out and burned, she couldn't even eat that. She ate the fries and the rest I guess went in the trash, but the scene he was making I didn't even get to show him her food. I was so mad and disgusted about our food and dining experience we just had, and how the owner treated us. What happened to good service? You won't find good food or service at El Sombrero Mexican Restaurant in Rapid City South Dakota! We don't go out to eat hardly ever, and we hadn't been out to eat since before February, so I was really hoping it would be good. I was really wanting good Mexican food, and a good chimichanga. I ended up going next door to get chicken nuggets for my granddaughter and getting myself a chicken sandwich bcos we were still hungry! So I ended up spending $30.91 at an awful restaurant and over $9.00 at Burger King just to eat dinner. My boyfriend ended up eating his dinner bcos he didn't want to complain. I think they need to take a look at there business and make some improvements on the inside of their restaurant and clean it bcos just by looks, it tells you something about a place and if what you see right in front of you out in the open doesn't look right or Appealing, I can just imagine what their kitchen looks like, and I'm sure it wasn't good! That and their customer service is a lot to be desired! I sure would be interested to know other customers feedback from this restaurant of what they think, if they seen the things I did, and if they had a good meal and experience or not. They weren't very professional that's for sure! I will never go back there ever again, and I definitely will not recommend this Mexican restaurant to anyone!

We were parked at Burger King’s drive thru next door. Seriously. We were in line for about 5-10 minutes and frustrated, we decided to just park and dine in. Nope! Doors were locked. There goes that plan. . . Alas, our plan B was Taco Bell but El Sombrero was right there and so we opted for the real deal. We are extremely glad we did! We were seated within minutes. Drinks served and complimentary fresh chips and salsa whet our appetites. We ordered steak fajitas, beef tacos, tamales, chimichangas, the whole menu (jk, kinda). EVERYTHING was delicious! Perfectly seasoned and cooked with generous portions as we shared it with our family of five. Service was great and so was the value! Our family could have easily spent around the same dollar amount at a fast food place and received half the amount of food that would have been sub par and probably not as healthy as what we nourished ourselves with here at El Sombrero.

Literally horrified at how they even call this a Mexican restaurant. They tell me they’re out of queso, and that there won’t be any made in time before I leave. Then I’m reading other reviews and seeing that this is common. Sounds like laziness in the kitchen. There is no way. So I ask for tacos, not realizing what they’re about to do. I asked for two beef two chicken, and they refused to give me my beef ones and then I’m absolutely baffled and shocked to see they put SHREDDED cheese on my tacos that weren’t even correct. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that does this. Oh you think that’s it? Mid-chew of my third taco, there were hairs in it and I had to spit it out and couldn’t even eat my last one because that made me lose my appetite. Never. Again.

I’ve always enjoyed eating here. The food is wonderful and because of that I’ve always been able to overlook how dirty the place is. yesterday I went to go eat there, and as always the food was excellent and my table was dirty. But, this afternoon when the transaction went through, I noticed that they charged me more than I signed for. I noticed while paying yesterday that there is an in discrepancy in the receipts he gave me, and when I looked into it, I noticed that on one of the receipts it did say that there would be a certain percentage added for cards. And it was stated there in black-and-white, but today when the transaction went through, they had charged me more than the four dollars and $4.86 tip I had left. Which was more than the 12% that is recommended. It may only be a dollar more than I had agreed to…. But I don’t care it’s dishonest and the dishonesty can’t be overlooked. If they are doing it to me, then you can believe that I’m not the only one that they’re...

I went here because of the good reviews, and boy was I mislead! I ordered the relleno with a tamale on the side. The tamale was ok. The relleno was undercooked (still crunchy), it was wrapped in an omelette (I let that part slide, I have had many variations of the relleno), and the cheese inside wasn't even melted! The plate it came on was HUGE! I should have known this place was bad once I walked in the door (it had great google reviews though, remember?), but I wanted to give it a chance anyway. This was nearly the most horrible mexican (more like mexican't) food I have had. However, I will say the service was good, and the staff was super friendly. Aside from that, I am not sure what people had that was so good that lead them to leave great reviews. Seriously, this is bland city. Taco Bell is a better choice than this place. If I could have my stomach pumped so I could get a do-over at a place that was actually good, I would seriously consider it. Don't...
