We came in around 8pm on 12/1/21. We brought our two year old daughter and 7 week old son to get some ice cream.
The cashier, Ben, yelled at us when he thought we had turned down the self checkout volume.
We had scanned maybe three items when we heard āturn the volume back up!ā We looked up to see Bens face angrily looking at us, we had NOT turned the volume down. My husband said āwe didnāt turn it down,ā to be told by Ben, again, āturn it back up!ā So my husband replied, āI donāt know how.ā We didnāt even know you could change the volume on these. Ben walked over to us and told us to not turn the volume down otherwise he couldnāt hear what is going on (as he was clearly by himself as a cashier). I had just finished entering my phone number, maybe he thought thatās what I was doing instead of entering my number. Ben went on to stand next to us, as my husband scanned the beer we had left in our cart. Ben tells my husband āpeople keep turning the volume down on these things, if it keeps happening Iām gonna turn close these things down.ā Cool, but we didnāt need to be scolded when we didnāt do anything wrong. We finished paying and got our stuff and walked to our car. My husband told me āIāve never felt more attacked in my life, and Iāve been shot at.ā (He is a retired Army/Navy vet)
Hereās my issue, when Ben first shouted at us, we BOTH looked up, with deer in the headlight eyes, because we had done nothing wrong. Ben, then continued to scold us after we told him we didnāt do anything. Ben was also in the middle of checking out another person on his check out lane, when he began yelling at us. So we were humiliated by Ben, when he confronted us. Lastly, Ben didnāt apologize at all after we told him multiple times that we hadnāt turned down the volume.
We recently started doing most of our grocery shopping at Safeway across the road, because of the high prices, and lack of variety at Family Fare. But to be verbally attacked and humiliated in front of other customers, we will not be returning to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHad a weird experience at the cashier's lane during checkout. Couldn't tell if the guy behind the counter was drunk or high, and his coworker buddies turned on the light of his station on without him knowing, but it was strange. Was with my wife and 4 year old, felt not dangerous but that kind of weird emotional presence of someone doing something they're not supposed to and they are afraid you're mad at them or "in on a joke and not find them agreeable." Like dog, I'm here to spend money on the food not fist pound you after you make a stupid joke about 23 and me and who is and isn't worthy of being considered for a veteran's discount. Like you look 45 yrs old and look stoned or drunk like a 19 year old... just let me buy my food without trying to get into a weird conversation with weird undertones of tension around my wife and kid.
Food selection was decent, and the place was pretty clean. I wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend people new to the area going there though if they are just trying to do the 9 to 5 and not have to be community therapists for stoners who didn't grow out of whatever the heck they are going through in a public setting. Like be drunk, be high, be merry... I'm not looking to play along just cause I chose to go through your lane to pay for my food. You're the grocery store worker, and I'm the dude buying stuff for my family. Welcome to the story we are in. This happens billions of times a day. Shoppers can make small talk, but we don't want to feel mildly threatened because we don't know your state of mind. Regardless if we are with our kids, but especially for me around my kid.
Tl;dr: cashier appeared to be put into a situation where he probably shouldn't have been, and instead of communicating it, he just had an isolating behavior with customer but like stoned out of gord with coworker buddies. Weird to be in situation as customer with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHorrible experience at Family Thrift Center at Baken Park Shopping Center. I was overcharged on my total ticket by almost double. The checker tried to handle the issue but said she could not put thru a credit on my credit card. She called the manager on duty to help. The manager was extremely rude. I was at the store for probably 45 minutes trying to get my refund. I told the manager I lived out of town and wanted to get their error fixed. He turned his back to me and started talking to another male employee and "ignored" me. I stepped away and called my husband to tell him not to wait for me to cook dinner. Then the checker gave me cash back for part of the amount due to me. Then I noticed it was still incorrect and she called manager back. Then I had to go to another check stand with him and he then took my groceries out of the bags and ran thru again to get amount that should be charged. Then I figured out by using my calculator ...how much he needed to give me to balance out the total. Then he was trying to be nicer and apologized. We then walked over to the checker again and she gave me the additional amount needed to balance out the ticket. This was a very uncomfortable situation for me and the checker. She apologized several times. This is not the first time I have had poor service at FTC. I would suggest you have more checkers available and make it easier to make a simple adjustment on a ticket. Ridiculoous that you would ask your customers to come back to the store the next day to correct YOUR errors. I noticed you are starting to remodel your store. I would suggest that you hire good employees and maybe pay and train them to provide the best customer experience so you can retain customers and not put them thru a horrible...
