In quaint little Redlands, it is hard to find a venue to throw a casual party, because those wedding venues are pretty much all that we have. Those wedding venue spaces are very expensive. Redlands needs an option a bit less intense for more casual celebrations too. And we found it at Venue 38. I wanted to celebrate my daughter's 2nd birthday in a space larger than my living room, but not ballroom-big. Venue 38 is a really great in-between. It is just right for a gathering up to 130, but even a small group of 30 or less is feasible without feeling like you're swimming in a huge space. This is because it has an L-shape that makes each arm of the structure just the right size for your volume of people. The bar setting is super cute, and modern, and off to the side, so it can just be a place to eat if no one wants a bar at the party. You will have to hire an independent bartender if you want to drink, which is fine since personalizing the vibe of the space can come down to every person present, so why not chose the bartender that fits your needs if a bar is going up? There is a leaf-covered wall built in too, to use as a photo backdrop. The bathrooms are 2 individual rooms and stylish too. They have huge arm chairs to set up for photos or a "court" of people to sit in a special space in front of everyone. And the staff are very loving and warm. I worked with Kim a lot, and she is like a momma bear, wanting to make sure all your desires can be accommodated into the space. Thanks Venue 38 for being a great "JUST Right" site (not too big, not too small) to celebrate all sorts of family events or groups. Got married here a few months ago and it was nice. Very accommodating space and the owner was polite enough. However, they made us use their bartender and that was the only downside… I placed my drink order with Ekiah 3 months before the big day, told her my two cocktails and put down the $300 deposit. I was told that all I would need to bring was the alcohol itself and she would provide the mixers. Sooo the day before the wedding I was informed that the bartender has FORGOTTEN the wedding entirely? I was reassured that it would be okay, but the bartender showed up extremely unprepared. The bride’s drink was a tequila sunrise and the groom’s drink was supposed to be a blackberry Moscow mule. She told me (in a rude matter) that she did not have Ginger Beer. Didn’t apologize at all for being unprepared, but whatever. So my maid of honor goes out during my wedding and gets the Ginger Beer. It’s then that we learn that she didn’t have blackberries either! Wow! So she literally forgot everything I told her. I had custom made the drink menus accordingly so we had to put the groom’s drink menu away entirely. Not only was she unprepared, but she was rude to my guests. Especially rude to me.. the bride.. One of my guests said she was seen in the back with an ice pack on her head. Clearly hungover.
